Licence plate detail.. (here's what I do..)

So yeah - I'm obsessive with details.. including my plates. Always taken back at how most people mount plates with wire/drywall screws and little afterthought.

1 - black painted, metal plate frames w/ no lettering or anything (a parts guy at a local dealership just gave me chrome frames - then I proceeded to perform simple scuffing, filling work, and paint to them)

2 - electrical tape used to minimize "crap" lettering on the plates themselves

3 - cheapy, parts store mounting caps to cover hardware

(I also "slice" registration stickers with an exacto knife in effort to prevent sticker theft) (a trick learned while I lived in Chicago..)

fwiw - was recently pulled over (and let off) - and my "taped up" plates was something the officer never mentioned..

also - I hate running the front plate (and often don't) (and cops don't seem to even care much) - but it's one of those deals where you don't want to give any reason to get pulled over..

Can you explain the xacto knife trick?
Do you just slice it up so it pulls off in pieces?

pretty much.. just take an exacto knife or sharp utility knife or a razor blade for that matter - then (after applying stickers) make a series of cuts in the sticker(s).

a would-be cheap-skate thief is therefore much less likely to try to pirate your registration stickers..

I've been pulled over without a front license plate on, cop didn't even bother to check lol. And I'm pretty sure he saw the front of my car before he pulled me over, but it was dark so he may not have noticed.
The first car I ever rode in was an e30

Here in az they recently changed the law so that your license plate frame cannot cover the state name

in Georgia, we only have to run one on the back...which is nice

unfortunately, this is what the plate looks like

Haven't run a front plate on any car in the 12 years I've lived here and never been pulled over or ticketed for it, my wife drove my porsche twice 6 monthsmago and was pulled over both times lol

I use stainless steel screws, and never use plate frames, I hate them

I think we should be able to use the same size plates you are given for a motorbike, I cant think of any reason why we should have to have a bigger plate, it's always annoyed me

I always thought it was stupid that those plates say "early American" on them. Like America is the only place worth looking for old cars...

I used to get all up in arms about my plates but I got over it. Now I run a naked plate in front and an r3v frame on the back. I even have the municipality vehicle tax decal now. Got tired of fighting the system and paying the tickets.

No. If you're that detail oriented, you would've never let that frame hang lower, at an angle with no flush mount, and be a protrusion like that.

The wisconsin plate does not look that bad compared to a lot of others. I've quite enjoyed how plain it is.

The plate always hangs below that area, even without the filler. Only a euro plate fits completely inside.

Here in FL we only have to rock rear plates. And for whatever reason I like our oranges

here in texas it is illegal to cover any lettering on the plate... what i have done however on other cars is narrow the plate by trimming it top and bottom (or just bending the bottom over 108) and thus it fits in recesses properly. Works for me since they don't use plate mounted reg. stickers here.
