    Color matched mirrors?

What year did they start color matching mirrors? My 88is has black mirrors, but I have seen other 88's that have color matched. Was it a factory option?

I think they started in late 88. It was introduced with the plastic bumpers on convertible models.

That would make sense...mine is 3/88 production

Convertibles got color matched mirrors before they got plastic bumpers. I think the area around the diving boards got color matched at the same time as the mirrors.

Verts didn't get plastic bumpers until late 91 or early 92.

I also had an 89 delphin sedan with black factory mirrors.

Color matched mirrors were standard on 325iS, 318iS, M3, and convertible.

                They were optional on others.

^Matt beat me to it. It wasn't a year model thing but a trim level thing. However, 86-87 325eS did NOT have color matched mirrors whereas the same year 325iS did. And of course all Verts which makes sense since they were some of the most expensive E30's. If they were an option on others...I have never seen them from the factory that way. Most people just painted their black mirrors body color to update the look of the car back in the day.
