Reviving an old thread because I just removed this trim from my 1989 325is and could have saved at least one clip. Adding to the notes above, for the door trim, on the forward-most clip you tilt the back of the trim out and pull it back. On the front fender trim piece both clips are the ‘bulging pin’ type so the trim pulls straight off. On the rear fender piece, the front clip is like the door trim and you tilt the back of the trim out and pull the trim back. I broke one of these trying to pull the trim straight off this clip.
A couple other notes:
If you wiggle the trim up and down while you pull it outward, it will come off the center clips more easily.
On a couple of my trim pieces, someone had repaired a couple of the broken off ‘bulging pins’ with oval head wood screws, which seems to work well.
