I was unaware non-F1 cars cannot benefit from any added downforce.
A lot of people don't realize

jordan, its a e30 not a formula1 car. i dont know why you would want to try to gain any rear downforce, at the expense of drag, on a e30 which are known to understeer at the limit anyway. a Mtech-2 wing would lose almost all its aerodynamic benefits through turns with the lack of end plates, and exiting turns is the only situation i think a e30 would benefit from more grip in the rear. which in that case your main focus should be on mechanical grip.
I beg to differ, there have been numerous times tooling down the autobahn from Koblenz to Frankfurt-Main and the rear has gotten squirelly at high speeds. Some downforce helps with out it you don't have traction.Comment

Also you have to take into account that I have a steeply angled Rieger Infinity lip. Ask anyone that has one, it makes a HUGE difference at speed. TJ has communicated this to me before, and I know others have felt it. Add to that.. I have a lip splitter, which will push the front end down further still... The ass end NEEDS something to help balance it out for as the front gets heavier the ass only gets lighter.Tenured Automotive Service Professional - Avid BMW Enthusiast

good point greg. i can understand how the the Mtech2's dual-element like design can help at speed, or how any spoiler can slightly help. but my point was not to say that e30's cannot produce ANY downforce, just that on most tracks and any highway in the US, a Mtech-2 wing due to its design, and shape of the e30 will not benefit the car in terms of performance.Originally posted by M-technik-3MattOriginally posted by MattM20

Most people who seriously track their e30's look to reduce grip in the rear (to counter understeer), such as: by changing the pitch angle (2.1" front 1.7" rear IE springs for example, and the similarly front biased ProKit,) which moves more weight to the front; setting rear damper settings with stiffness biased to the rear, larger proportioned rear to front sway bar settings, and getting futher involved, it is more common to see greater angles of camber and toe in the front compared to the rear. and no i'm not spouting out my ass, ive seen, close up, the BMWCCA Club Race champion E30 and had long talks with the guy who built it (check this months Roundel).
like i said earlier, the biggest obstacle you need to overcome on a e30 is understeer. the downforce produced by an aggresive lip and race splitter will deffinately help, but that splitter you have, jordan, is not enough to throw the rear out of balance, especially with a non-race prepared suspension. which, even at that ride height, will experience enough body roll to elimate most of the low pressure region going underneath it in a hard turn.
however i have not heard you speak of any goals to turn your e30 into a touring car champ, so i'd have to say any aerodynamic gains you achieve with your beautiful looking e30 is great

a good point. however, the 'half mtech2' looks kinda hacked to meOriginally posted by JordanYeah.. but that is weak sauce looking, and everyone has one.. stock... (just about)Originally posted by randomtask37meh
i would rather just have an is spoiler.
if u did the adjustments u were talkin about then it might turn out pretty hot
even so, i still think id opt for a full mtech 2 spoiler98 M3/4/5

The difference of having a Rieger front lip and no lip at all above 60mph is night and day. I really wish my lip hadn't broken.Comment

See those 3 holes in the top of the spoiler? the wing bolts on through those holes.Originally posted by kriscoSweet life. Anyone who says they don't like it is just jealous they hadn't done it first. What connects the two pieces of the wing together?

The point of the spoilers mounted on e30s (from the factory) is to "spoil" the airflow to stop a laminar air flow from occuring. With laminar air flow the drag behind the car is greater - so with a spoiler there is less drag. None of those wings are for "downforce".Comment

I noticed that in the ETK, and wondered how it would look.
Looks just about as good as I invisioned it.
Might see if Jon can send me a busted M-Tech II wing from the UK :-DMy mountains are better than yours.Comment
