Nice job painting them Nando. I want to do something similar with the throwing stars, but I want the masking to look professional (like yours) and I know how hard it is.Comment

it's hard.. Including cleaning them, I've put about 50 hours of time into these so far. I used blue 3M painters tape for the lips, and to get the lines to look decent took forever. your throwing stars aren't nearly as complicated as BBS weaves though, wet sanding all those spokes was NOT fun! haha
almost done with them, gotta fix the lip on one (bumped it with the can while I was clearcoating). I'm going to let them dry until sunday.Comment

Yeah post some pics when you do. The amount of time and effort shows  Good job they look niceComment

too much! over $800.. but it's still a lot less than any of the other wheels I would have wanted, and I have a spare in case one of them gets destroyed.Comment
-
Just to let you in on something most 15 yr old wheels look like that. Brake dust eats paint and clear coat.Comment

yeah, but these were seriously dirty when I got them.. they honestly looked like they hadn't been cleaned in a year. I wasn't expecting the paint to be perfect though, although two of them were practically new except the rash all around one of the lips.
anyway, I'm fixing the scratch I put on the lip of one of them last night, but the other 3 are done:
it's going to be really hard staring at them for the next few days until the paint hardens enough to mount them! :)
btw, I used 4 cans of primer, 5 cans of base (4 nogaro and 1 sterling), and 5 cans of clear! I didn't quite use all of my base, but I used every last drop of clearcoat. I thought one can of SS woulde be enough to do the rims and my iS lip, but I used the whole thing so I have to order two more cans (I have an i lip on my car right now).Comment

how the heck did you spend $800+ on those wheels?????
Why didnt you just buy regular iX basket weaves and paint those? They look good... but damn man... for $800 you could have easily bought something lighter, easier to clean, and already painted.
Looks good regardless.Below the radar...Comment

well, they were around $580 shipped (5 wheels), then a couple hundred on paint.
I didn't want ix basketweaves.. they sit too far inside the fenders, they don't have much of a lip (the spokes also bend out like a FWD wheel) and every ix already has them. plus they are just as hard to find as euro BBS, and not much cheaper.
please tell me what wheels I could have bought for $800, other than kosei K1 (which I'm not terribly fond of), that fit an ix and has an offset of ET24? Almost every ix i've seen online have terribly nasty wheels, and the only ones that look right to me cost $300 each (BBS, SSR comps, etc).. so I don't feel bad at all, and the paint turned out really well :)Comment
