The peice you're talking about is an OEM piece, and it looks like shit if you ask me. Its fiberglass or similiar I believe.

AS far as fog plates, I have no idea. I couldnt find them on realoem. My guess would be its NLA though.

Did you get the fog light carrier/mounts too?

Didn't know there were two types of chrome euro bumpers .
I may be wrong on the second part (Mtech), but I know its different. I looked at some a long time ago they ended up being a different type of clip than what I currently have, which is non MTECH bumpers.
The bumpers are the same. I'm just talking about moldings. Which are still the same. I'm talking about the clips lol :nice:

In Andy's part out thread, he mentions that his euro bumpers have Mtech-specific endcaps. Since the endcap and the bumper molding are the same pieces, presumably there are two different types of euro bumper molding: regular, and mtech-specific.

Yep, I did get the fog light carrier/mounts and I did find the fog light delete covers for the euro valance so they do exist. I'll order those first before getting euro fogs...

If the moldings are the same, then why do they have two different part numbers?

Unless you have an Mtech kit, get the regular moldings.

Fair enough. But, what's the reasoning behind that?

                  Jean,

I just went through what you're facing over the past six weeks so I can speak from recent experience: If you're going to run the euro bumpers without the M-Tech 1 items, get the appropriate corresponding bumper trim pieces. The parts are still available through the dealer -- if you've got a good counter guy who's willing to check other dealerships' stock -- and they aren't that expensive. The fit is noticably different between the two versions -- it will stand out if you're using the wrong trim pieces -- and you'll regret it every time you look at the car if you don't do it right in the first place.

Hope this helps and best of luck on your project You'll be very happy with the finished product.

Yes. There is one for up to 9/85 and another one from 9/85 to 9/87 and they’re not interchangeable.

From your pictures it looks like you have the early style lower lip piece and a late valance.

The lower lip piece for the 9/85 to 9/87 valance is part #51 71 1 943 868 and is the bigger, darker one in these pics:

There were two OEM Air dams available for the early Euro cars (up to 9/85) one was M-Tech and the other wasn't. The non M-Tech bolts to the same holes that the black lower lip thing used and the M version replaces the whole valance.
                    The non M is part #51 71 1 932 197
                    M-Tech is part # 51 11 1 929 559

ainadude - thanks! this is exactly why I asked, trying to understand the difference between the bumper trim pieces, would be nice to find a good side by side picture :).

                      SoCal323i - thanks! Brake ducts aren't used with the bigger lower lip (51 71 1 943 868 ) ?

Jason, thanks! I am trying to understand what SoCal meant when he euro valances aren't interchangeable? In what way are they not interchangeable?

Before I order new euro fogs (there is more than one part number for those as well), are they universal for ANY euro valance or do I have to match them up as well?

This is turning out to be more complicated than I thought....

They are the same if you are just ordering the lense. I think the e28 M5 uses the same lense along with other models. But you can get clear ones or yellow ones. There is a right side lense and a left side lense.
