Would this have anything to do with sanctioned racing events, because there are no inspections of cars in Georgia. other than emissions and all they do is look at their monitor, and not much more than the exhaust tip and a plug wire.Originally posted by JordanComposite doors are absolutely not going to be legal for road use. It'd be funny to watch them open the door expecting a heavy metal piece and just about rip it off.

umm, the door might save some weight, but once you put in a full roll cage to make up for the structrual integrity you took away from the car, by taking away metal doors, not to mention the safety factor... You're probably back at ground zero.
Carbon nylon costs about the same, a few bucks cheaper per yard. The only difference is cosmetic, its silver/black vs greyish/gold black. There is also aluminized fiberglass (IE silver carbon fiber) neither are strong enough on their own for anything like a fender or hood, You could probably get away with two layers of 10-20 oz carbonfiber for strength, then put a layer on top for prettyness.. I think this would steer away from that "dirty" look carbon fiber hoods can sometimes have. by the dirty comment i'm referring to some of the cheaper hoods out there that look like a gross black hood from a small distance. I'm going to get the door panels down first, then maybe move to a fender, then a hood.
I havent decided whether the hood or the fender will be easiest. My guess is the fender, mainly because the hood will be a bitch and a half to get stock mounting points to work. My guess is once I can actually do it, CF hoods will only cost about 100-150 to make (not including cosmetic layer).
We'll see. I recovered my door panel for a mold, and I'll probably try vacuum bagging it tomorrow. instead of trying to wrap the panel in cloth, I'm going to just try and lay it on there, and cut the access off when its dry. It'll be a lot less time consuming, and probably cleaner. I'm also going to use two layers instead of one, and use proper measurements of resin:cloth.
Today I used a small piece of cloth and used equal wieght measurements, and it turned out alot stronger, just one small piece. We'll see how the big panel works out. If i cant get the panel to work, I think for now I'm just going to do door panel inserts, which will look pretty tight with black interior, especially after i re-upholster my seats in grey.
I'm out for now.
and yes Kris, yes i did

Spaz - I have no clue what the hell you're talking about...
Digital - I took the upholstry off a door panel, sanded the imperfections out, and put two sided tape down in the crevices, and covered it with aluminum foil. It could stand to be lightly waxed.
Peace

The CF does not bond to the aluminum foil, therefore after the stuff is laid and dry you can just separate the 2?Comment

They do not even look for a CAT here. Seat belt laws are only inforced if you are drunk or have an accident, and speeding tickets are the main source of revenue!Originally posted by hamann318isYou're forgetting the all important fuel filler cap check! ;)Originally posted by kylebes1Would this have anything to do with sanctioned racing events, because there are no inspections of cars in Georgia. other than emissions and all they do is look at their monitor, and not much more than the exhaust tip and a plug wire.Originally posted by JordanComposite doors are absolutely not going to be legal for road use. Could you get some pictures up of you doing this?
I've been VERY intersted in starting this soon and I'm gathering all the research I can about the whole process (including all materials necessary, step by step procedures, etc).
