Aw, James. Sorry! You're a perfect example of a person who does the opposite of what I preached. Continuing on.....

So, in retrospect, if you feel like you can dump enough money into an e to make it better, like Chris said earlier, don't let anything stop you.

I think what I was trying to say earlier, is if you're gonna keep the E, try to do some functional mods along with the cosmetic mods you want to do. :D

edit: Really, either way you go, you win. You just may spend more cash to get what you want out of the e rather than getting what you want stock from an i or the equivalent.

Sorry! Rambling again! Hope my info is useful..

Thanks alot guys! Seriously, but the only other local car I could afford while still having a daily driver to get me around was a 318 with rust and alot more work then I wanted. It is sad that I don't have the money to make it quicker... but I'm thinking I'll get another e30 this summer. I just wish before I bought it I knew more about the differences in early and later e30's.

With that being said... a dark charcoal or black would hide those ugly ass rubber plastic things? Or should I go crazy and try to put an actual stock body kit from another year on there? :cries: I wanted to spend the money on a new suspension instead of a kit anyways, I don't think my cars bumper reigon can look good without those things.

I just got one more thing... why are so many people against 17's? I mean I'm sure the 16's after my car is lowered a bit would give me more tread.. is it because they look too ricey?

You say that like I was pestering you with it. Didn't mean it like that, just informing you that there is far beyond the OE BMW parts available for our cars.

I wish I knew more about e30's before my purchase as well. Oh well, it's still a nice car none the less. Just remember, it's your car. Do what you want to do with it.

About the ugly ass rubber plastic things, you mean the bumper mouldings that surround the diving boards? Really the only thing you can do is swap to the plastic bumpers, which the swap procedure is available here at r3vlimited on the front page. Front bolts on directly, however the rear requires modification.

edit: Or you can swap to euro bumpers, like James Crivelone did.. It's a direct swap if I'm not mistaken. Yes, it's still chrome, but they're way shorter, and sexier.. Hehe, James..

I'd suggest you get the suspension before worrying about the bumpers... That is, unless you can find a nice deal.

He's right, dude. rock the diving boards and drive the shit out of it!

I'll have some eta-bottlecap-cheapass-tire Sears Point action pictures to help motivate you in a couple weeks. JUST DRIVE IT! Besides, isn't it just soooo satisfying to kick some ricer ass in an ugly bimmer? I dropped a lowered sticker-sportin' 98 prelude on Lucas Valley road the other night, after following closely for a few miles. I think the driver pussed out, because that was not a slow car...

I'm with ya guys its still a nice car, and I just got it running about 10 minutes ago, gotta tune it tommorrow but I just wish it was a 5 speed. I'm glad my 97 Escort is my daily. I don't know... I wanna fall in love with that car... (the eta) but I got it for 1200 and I may be able to turn around and sell it for more and get a later i. I just don't know. At the least I'm gonna drive the eta and see what I've been missing by not driving a e30.

What I'm thinking is if I keep it... suspension, rims, and these euro bumpers sound very promising. And if I don't keep it, I'll get it running, detailed, and get as much money as possible for it. Buy an i, and sell my escort put money into the i and buy another project car (of course another e30) Or get this eta running, sell the escort put a little money into it and spend the rest of the escort profits (not much) and buy a resto 325i project.

Its hard to decide, I'm split so many ways. To those whom have done a auto to 5spd conversion, about how much time and money was spent?

Whatever many good e30s started as etas. Its your car mod it however you want don't try and please all the style nazis on this board.

Some people dont need or want to go fast (andreny for example) but still want there car to look good.

Others want to go fast and take an eta and run with it (Randy).

                    Sold it.

Auto --> Manual cost me $1100 to buy a fully functional parts car. After I strip all the parts out of it and sell them I hope to break even on it.

Yes, this is the proper attitude. Early Etas are absoloutely worthless.
