    Reupholster Costs

Looking to get some insight on getting my sport seats reupholstered in a vinyl and a plaid pattern like houndstooth or other. Have you gotten your seats done? What costs did you have for the task? Were you able to source new foam bolsters?

i use the search function and seems like the last post like this was from 2018. Wondering if prices have spiked?

    Thank you,

Are you looking to just get the skins or the seats reupholstered for you? As in, are you going to take the current materials off and put them back on yourself? That's going to make a large difference in price. Also depends on where you live.

You don't have to use the molded foam. If you still have the bolsters, you can get foam to fill them in and fix any damage that they may have.

I just had a set of front and rear sport seats reupholstered in houndstooth. I had estimates of $1400-$3000 for the job. I picked the cheap one (Mr. Headliner in Anderson, Indiana) and he did a great job in a short period of time. Click image for larger version

I like the combination of the fabric middle and the leather or vinyl bolsters. I’ve seen the vinyl and leather skin sets from Lseat. I haven’t found any replacement skins that are the mix of fabrics. I would feel comfortable trying to reskin them myself but don’t see that product anywhere. These above are what I’d like to do, either in the houndstooth or in another plaid. Thanks for the response. I’ll have to some checking around here in KC.

I just started looking into this, and found vendors that sell new skins. I'm just concerned they might not be a perfect fit, so I would rather pay someone to do the work proper with my seats on site. But for costs reasons I might go with a pre-made one.
          Here's an example:
          https://www.ebay.com/itm/26552017819...evt=1&mkcid=28

And here's a review that convinved me I should just find a local upholstery shop:
"These seat kits are not made of "German Vinyl" I have extensive experience with German cars in general and these are without question not German Vinyl. Second, the covers are very poorly sewn. Areas that can not be sewn due the through rods are sewn. Areas where the cross padding goes is sewn over. There are areas missing slip seams vital to fitment. Padding areas sewn flat not 3d. These will fit Porsche 928 seats but are very poorly made and the vinyl is not German Vinyl."

Has anyone tried dying the vinyl from tan to black?

Call John at Ninestitch. He made a seat kit for me with OEM quality vinyl and E30 plaid (uberkaro). Great result and reasonable price. Disassembled the seats myself (easy, many DIYs and YouTube videos) and had a local shop install them.

I had new vinyl put on E30 sport seats. I refurbished the seat mechanicals (frames, rails, cables, etc) myself prior to the upholstery work. I bought new foam pads from the dealer 52101923907 and 52101933390, about $800 for both seats. The cost for the reupholstery was $825 for both seats including labor and german vinyl materials at Jim's Upholstery in San Diego. I thought that was very reasonable. They turned out beautiful. The cost for leather upholstery would have been $2500 for both seats. Since my rear seats were already vinyl, I was happy to go with that choice.

Hi, do you remember the amount of fabric required for both front and reat seats? Are we talking about 4 yards?

I don't know how much fabric it takes. Mr. Headliner just took care of it. I didn't have to do anything.

                          Thank you for replying.

I got second opinions and at least with the cut from relicate.com 3 yards are sufficient. Already ordered, waiting shipping and eager to provide feedback in some days.
