How Do Floor Mat Securing Clips Attach???

I've got a new set of OEM mats and then decided to get the plastic clips that screw into the carpet because the driver's mat kept sliding forward. Very annoying.

I screwed the "hook" pieces into the carpet in the middle of the oval grommet openings in the mats, but now I'm confused as to how the round parts attach and mate to the clips, as the clips are too short to turn and close in the oval grommets. Of course there's no instructrions included. It almost appears that I need to cut holes into my mats and the two round pieces clip together on the top and bottom? This seems like a simple deal, but I can't seem to figure it out.

The set I bought from Tischer less than a year ago came with the hardware to keep the mats in place. The hold-downs are are all one piece. You simply screw them into the carpet, put the mat in place over the oval plastic stud, and turn the top portion of the stud 90 degrees to lock the mat in place. Sounds like you have the wrong hardware.

Thanks--I just got off the phone with a sales guy I used to work with and he said exactly what you did Brett--Pelican sent me the E36 style clips. He's got the right clips for me so I'm going over to Perillo to get them from him.

What is the part number for the e30 clips. Always wanted something like this. Haven't really looked at the ETK either. Also does it matter the mats you use, BMW OEM e30 only, how about other BMW OEM mats?

        Any pics?

Here's a photo of the correct clip that bmwguru007 referred to. Realoem.com lists the E30 clip as part #51471919171, but that is clearly the same E36 part that won't work with the oval shaped grommet on the OEM E30 mats. I'm at a loss on this one...

Ok I have a lil problem too. My outermost clip has pulled out of the carpet. I think the PO made the hole a little big. Is there any clips that have over sized threads or maybe a flexible washer I can fold up and shove in the hole?

It's probably the smallest thing wrong with my car, but it just gets to me SO bad.

On the ETK, it looks to be 3 seperate parts. In the picture, is that just the anchor?

You need 4 of the pictured clips. 2 per mat. They are all one piece, I have no idea why the etk is showing 3 parts.

Correct, the anchor is one piece with the top section that turns 90 degrees to lock down the mat. The one you're looking at is the E36 style, which is a three piece style and won't work with the oval grommet style mats.

I looked in the ETK and just ordered the floor mat hardware that showed up there, each unit was three pieces: the screw with a loop that goes into the under-carpet foam, and two rings that snap together and then go over the screw+loop piece. I cut appropriate sized holes in my aftermarket driver's floor mat, snapped the two ring pieces together sandwiching the mat, and then placed it over the screw+loop piece. 90 degree turn and done.

I bought a new set of OEM mats and they were included in the box this time, so they probably aren't available separately. The last set I bought didn't include them for some reason.

Has anyone figured out a floor mat anchor that doesn't just rip out? I have my floor mat safety wired in a la Toyota recall.
