Those generally aren't used to save the seats, they are used to cover up ugly ones since they are cheaper than reupholstering.

change before you drive, problem solved, so basiclly they serve no other purpose besides maybe torturing yourself so when you take them off youre very happy or something?
oh ya you can cover shitty seats, and if youre not the asshole i am save your seats from the asshole who may eventually buy your car from you
