    Preserving my mint dash.

Wondering if it's worth it to get a dash cover or mat for my 88 is? The dash is perfect and I'm constantly paranoid about leaving it out in the heat. It was a northern car its whole life but now it's in Columbia SC, and it gets insanely hot here during the summer. Should I get a dash mat to protect it or will armor all be enough?

Also should I tint my windows to help with this?

Yeah my dash is super minty too.. not one crack. I put a heavy coat of Chemical Guys Extreme VRP trim protectant on it, but this now hotter weather has me worrying about it cracking

get a windshield cover....best way to block the sunlight....make sure its reflective...

tinting the windows will help a bit too but not much since the heat and the light will penetrate anyways.

If your dash is made out of Mint, then you should try not to eat it....

        Then it will stay mint....

No really, use a sun shade, get a dash cover, crack your windows, open ur sunroof if you have one, and use trim protectant, keep it from drying out.

              I use olive oil, too
best thing I've used but if you don't want to use it that's fine just don't use armor all or you'll end up with a trashed dash

DEFINITELY NO ON THE ARMOR ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Armor all has silicone in it and won't let the dash "breathe". It WILL cause the dash to crack.

If your dash is mint then don't use cleaning chemicals like armorall of protectants. Just use warm water with a very little bit of soap (dishwashing soap) when you want to clean it.

This is a huge mistake and why most of our dashes are crap. People put all these chemicals on them thinking they are protecting and cleaning them when really they are destroying them.

I always see you promoting this and I can't help but think how bad it is. Olive oil heats up easily...it's used for COOKING ffs. I may be completely wrong, but I feel like it's much worse than anything else you could put on your dash. What's your reasoning/rationale for doing it?

I personally recommend 303 Aerospace Protectant. 35 SPF for your stuff. Almost every detailer on sites like autopia swears by it. It's one of the most widely-accepted protectants out there...people buy it by the gallon.

                            Yeah, you're completely wrong.

Olive oil has a high smoke point and higher quality olive oils have even higher smoke points. But even the lowest quality has a higher smoke point than the temperature of your dash.

Yes, olive oil is used for cooking. But it's not used because it heats up or burns off easily...rethink why those of us who cook (perhaps ask your wife or gf) use oil in pans.

Apparently you've seen the four (counting this one) times I've mentioned it so it shouldn't be too difficult to read the threads for the rationale.
