My new seats - hooray for knockoffs - Pics on pg. 2!
Damnit Josh, you made it sound so easy. I should have thought of all that.
Well, it turns out we're not as slick as we thought. For some reason, we didn't measure the distance in-between the stock mounting points widthwise, and they in fact don't match up. So we will still have to make brackets, but they're going to be so simple, just a flat peice of bar stock in the back, and a flat peice in the front, bent on each end to clear the hump in the floor. Not only that, without making brackets, we wouldn't have any place to mount the seat belt receivers to.
We're retarded, I know. I'll keep y'all posted. :D
Alright, an update on the seats. They're almost in!
Andrew and I made the brackets today, and the tabs for the seat belt receivers. Tomorrow we're going to remove the sliders from the seats, and weld them to the brackets, along with the seat belt tab. After that, they'll be painted black, bolted back to the seats, and installed in the car.
I'll have pictures for y'all tomorrow, I left my camera at Andrew's house. The brackets really came out great, and look very good! I'll be sure to include as much info as I can for the fabrication, they were actually very simple.
I've also decided to keep these seats for good. My plan is to keep them in the car for as long as the material holds up. Once it starts to get too beaten, I'm going to have them recovered, either in vinyl or leather. They'll still be black, and I'm considering having all of the stitching done in red, though right now it's just an idea. I'm planning on getting the red Sport Evo seat belts in the future, so it would be a nice match.
We should be done tomorrow. We slightly fucked up on 2 of the welds yesterday, causing the holes for the bolts at the back to not line up properly. Today, I ground the welds off and ground everything back down to smooth. Tomorrow, Andrew and I are going to reweld the frames, get everything nice and sanded smooth, and paint them. Pics should be ready by then.
We got both of the brackets finished today, and they came out great. They are all welded, and almost done being painted. I should have everything put back together by Tuesday, since I have far too many things going on tomorrow.
Here's the pics so far. I'll have the rest of the pics, including the finished, painted brackets, plus the seats installed in the car this week.
I was going to get everything painted and installed this week, but instead we got 2 snowstorms back to back, the one last night left us with 8 inches of white snowy goodness. I'll get them finished as soon as I can, but I'm not in too big of a rush, seeing as how I can't even get my car out of my driveway. Trust me guys, I want them in as bad as you, it'll happen. I just want to make sure everything looks good and works right.
Seat brackets are completed, and installed back on the seats. I'm not really in any rush to get them into the car just yet, since the weather is such shit. Once the snow starts to subside, I'll get them put in. Until then, my car isn't being driven much, and I don't want to them all nasty. We have to do some minor modification to one of the seat belt mounting tabs (not enough room for the bolt, needs to be bent outward a tad), so we can't install them in the car yet, but here's the pics of them finished and painted.
Thanks for the compliments, guys. We'll have the seat belt issue fixed on Tuesday, then I'll put them in the car for a few pics. I don't know if I'm going to leave them in though, at least not until the weather starts to get nice again. It's really bad right now, and I don't want to get them all nasty by trudgng around outside, and jumping in the car. We'll see, this week is supposed to clear up a lot.
