    Rattle-Can Dye

My e36 rear seat has some fading from the sun on the top of it. It's black cloth. Is there any sort of spray dye that I could use to make it black again? I'm not too concerned about it being perfect, I just don't like the slight purple hue.

You can try Leatherique, it works pretty well if you do a lot of prep work on the leather. Essentially you have to sand it down a bit so the dye can soak in.

I've never tried it on interior car seats, but a company called RENOVO makes dyes for cloth convertible tops. I've used their product on my top (blue, but they sell black as well) and am happy with the results. Just a thought. A company called DETAILERS PARADISE sells Renovos products online.

it works, i use it a fair bit at work, the only thing about it is, do it in very light coats or else where you sprayed turns hard and crusty, like it's been dyed, and where your close to the window / rear parcel shelf i'd recomend either taking the seat out or masking, do this outside, if you thought spray paint had dirty fumes this stuff will kick your ass.....

Just bought a can of it online. $8.80 (plus another $8 damn dollars for shipping). Hopefully it works well!

You probably don't want to spray dye your whole carpet.

black is really the only color you can get away without dying the entire thing, unless you find an exact match, which is very hard.... and you'd be amazed at the difference it makes interior looks like new once it's all cleaned up and all the same color..... i have black carpet in my car, i'll snap some pics once i find my digi

I dyed a lot of parts in my friend's E36 interior, going from tan to black. It works great on plastic and vinyl, but on anything clothe/carpet/fabric/rear shelves, it sucks ass.

Did you use the VHT stuff? It says that it works on fabric.

Yeah, the VHT stuff. It was almost impossible to get even coverage on anything other than what I listed, and it made the fabric/clothe stuff super stiff and bristly and shat looking, but I think on seat fabric you will get better results.

Yeah, I can imagine it would suck on thick fabric like carpet. I'm hoping it does a decent job on the seat fabric (which I think may be canvas).
