    E30 carpet types/differences

I know the vert carpet is narrower then coupe to accommodate for the narrower rear portion, also the reason why verts have a different rear seat.

Is there any difference between the coupe and sedan? Also I didn't really look at my carpet but does it literally go under the hvac panel and have to remove that to get the carpet out?

    Thanks

It looks like its completely underneath the hvac panel, could be wrong though. Any input on the differences in coupe/sedan carpet if any?

I believe the coupe and sedan carpets are the same. And to fully change a carpet the dash and then the HVAC assembly will have to be removed.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Most just cut around the hvac box and remove the carpet. It's all hidden when the consoles are back in.

they are not the same the B pillar area is different due to the doors being shorter in the front on a 4 door. I think it might be possible to put a 4 door carpet in a 2 door, but not so much the other way, without there being a not so nice looking areawhere the B pillr is on the 4 door.

the carpet are made of 2 pieces. the sedan and coupe vary through the small second piece that goes underneath the rear seats. you will see the difference in the corners because coupe seats are square at the corner and does not require to be covered while the 4 door sedan is rounded and thus shows when you open the door.

Ps, the part where the shifter goes, manual cars is completely covered with carpet while autos have that rectangular piece missing

^^^ This person speaks the truth. The only difference between the coupe and sedan carpet is the rear piece, which is shaped differently because coupes and sedans have differently shaped rear bottom seats. The sedan seats are rounded at the edges to make it easier for passengers to enter.

Don't forget the sound deadening/insulation if I'm correct early models have separate insulation from the carpet there not bonded together. On my 88 super eta when I was ripping out the carpet the insulation was bonded with the carpet I think the early model insulation is lighter as well? Just cut around the heater core and you'll be good can't see the cuts because the top center console covers it.

sort of bumping an older thread, but are all coupes the same, regardless of the model? i have a 325is, and found a carpet out of a 318. i am assuming it will work, but do not want to be stuck with a carpet that wont work

anything but a vert carpet works in any e30 (not sure about touring) is what I gathered from this thread.

My '87 iX had separate carpet and foam, but my '90 and '88 have the one piece carpet/foam.

BUMP again, how is this so confusing? There has to be someone with first hand experience who can answer this.. will a coupe late model carpet set work in a late model sedan?

I just bought a e30 COUPE CARPET and installed it into my SEDAN. The front large piece fits PERFECT. The rear smaller piece fits good, but the corners near the door are different. BUt still works very well!
