What is this ? - came with vert

    As the title says.

Was folded up nicely in the trunk near the spare. Looks brand new.

Elastic straps (on each corner) with hooks at each end.

Two leather straps (hanging from the bottom) are weighted at each end.

Purpose for a rear window cover ?
The integrity of this piece makes me think there is little to no chance this is made to be fastened to the outside.
So . . . does it somehow clips and fastens from the inside of the vehicle and covers the window for . . . ? - privacy.

it is to protect the rear window while it is folded down.

The plastic window tends to rub against itself when stowed. Any debris will scratch it up good. I just tuck a towel in between as I'm folding the top.

I'm thinking its to protect the plastic window from UV, bird poop or cats when the top is NOT folded down.

Jeff may be right but BMW does sell something, now that I think of it...I want to say it's a cloth/towel to install in between the folds of the window when stowed.
