    carpet dye

I would like to change the color of my tan carpet to charcoal. Whats the best way to do this besides buying a new carpet set. I have looked around online and can't find anything that I could just brush in, is there such a thing? Does spray painting it with vinyl paint work? How well does it hold up? Thanks

check SEM products. Its a spray on dye, best to remove all the trim. Also found that going over with a stiff brissle brush keeps the caret soft and works the dye in. MIne has held up for over 5 years now.

I used this product and it worked well. I didn't use a stiff brissle brush and wish I did. If you don't use the brush, the carpet dries stiff. It's basically just a spay paint that you spray onto the carpet.

^^^ That still looks very gray.

Most upholstery shops can/will dye carpet. Might want to look into that. Then it would be warranted and you wouldn't have to mess with it.

Still looks pretty damn good if you ask me. Maybe before and after pictures would show the difference more.

It does look good, but if I were going to be dyeing my carpet black, I'd be pretty disappointed if that's as dark as it got. I'd take it to an upholstery shop.

yeah it looks pretty light in the pictures but its very black in person, and its not as dark under the seats....whos gonna see that.

Thats 6 cans VHT and it has held up fine for about 4 months now, the total was like $25. I had the carpet pulled anyway to dry out so I just dyed it, i am very pleased.

I have called every single upholstery supply shop and every upholstery shop in my area.

None dye. None sell the dye, either. Not for an automotive application, anyway.

I did some web searching. Found several sites suggesting "RIT" dye in a spray bottle of very hot water. Haven't tried anything yet.
