M Tech Steering Wheel Install: Do I remove this?

I can't get the M-Tech Steering wheel to slide all the way down to the column for some reason. Am I supposed to remove this spacer which covers a lock ring?

I see an airbag in the background, are you trying to put a non-airbag wheel on an airbag car????

yes, non airbag M Tech wheel. I am pretty much guessing that there is no way around the half inch gap you are left with between the back of the M-Tech and the column???

There is one spacer behind the wheel like that one. Leave it there. Put on mtech wheel, put on some more spacers, and then nut. It will be fine.

        Will

I used three 1/8" washers for my mtech 2 wheel. but the turnsignals don't really work right.. the slipring is too far away to turn them off. I'll put the washers between the steering wheel and slipring later, but I have to get longer screws. unfortunately they're wierd 3.5mm screws which aren't easy to find..

as far as the gap, it's not really noticeable.

You also need to take the white plastic pin and spring out if you have an airbag car.

As time went on, the factory developed the car each year, making it faster, more comfortable, and capable of handling at higher speeds.

not if you space it out far enough. I wanted to keep the distance between the wheel and turn signals as close to stock as possible.. but of course now my steering lock doesn't work :p

There are at least two variations of the M-tech II wheel.

Would the E36 variant fit the air-bagged e30 better?

On further inspection the gap really isn't all that noticeable. I broke the white piece that guided the airbag wiring so that takes care of that. I didn't think that many spacers would be required, I am going to run by the hardware store today for some more.

What a nice and welcome difference...

You need a washer found on the steering column of non-airbag cars, or you can add the extra washers yourself like Nando metioned above.

                      Part number 4 : 32-31-1-120-260

Also, the stalks will be too close to the wheel, apparently the stalks for airbag cars are different from non-airbag ones. And you need to be sure that you line them up right when putting the wheel back on, or your turn signal will not turn off when you finish turning. If you wanted to be perfect about it, you would need non-airbag stalks so they were stock length from the wheel, and you could lock the wheel with the key out of the ignition.

                      Good luck!

that part you mention is what I have in my hand,I was going to remove it in order to have the steering wheel sit further back and therefore eliminate more of the gap howver that would make the wheel be completely up against the turn signal and washer levers. So I'll live with the small gap. I have it on right now and everything works except that I can still pull the wheel out towards me some so I need a couple more washers and I should be set. Thanks

Its for the airbag, why wouldnt you take it out? Take it out, break it, cut it off, doesnt matter as long as its not there anymore. Either way, everything works for me, so ha.

i know it's kinda late, but i put my mtech wheel in without removing the srs plugs/wires, and spaced it with some washers. it brought my wheel closer to the turn signal stalk, but i like it personally!!!!

Do you have any other dimensions for the washers and screws? I'm hoping to install my MT2 on Wed and would like to have the parts ready to go. TIA
