Adjustable Euro Smileys

Just picked up a set of nearly perfect Hella Euro smileys for $168 shipped from Germany - think i did ok. They have the vacuum level adjustment - any clues as to how I'd make this work on my US-spec E30? Or would it be more complicated than it's worth?

As Mr325 said, it will take a lot more than using a simple system to adjust the lights from the inside of the car. Although if you can find a wreck european E30 that used the adjustable lights, it might be worth it...

It's pretty neat though they BMW offered this in the late 80's/early 90's....

I was looking into using those headlights a while back before i went the bi-xenon route... If you look at the ETK under a later model european car, it shows all of the partnumbers... ahhh fuck it- here you go.

See if Patrick @ BMA can get those parts for you. It would be a lot cheaper going through him than the dealer if you decide to buy new. Looks like it can be done for under $200, which would be a pretty neat feature to have.

Most people disable the vaccum system. See if you can do the electrics from the E34, its less likely to fail.

it works off of mineral oil...if you want i have a controller for them that fits in the knee bolster, but no lines...i'm sure you could prolly use the plastic piping for fish tank airator things.

If that is what you want to do, then upgrade to the E34 style electric units. The Vacuum/hydraulic units are far too prone to leaks.

E34 motors are about 100 times easier to install than the hydraulic unit, and it costs less too!

I have done it, i also fitted self leveling sensors because of my Xenons, and they work with the E34 motors.

interesting, i didnt' know the factory system used vacuum, I assumed it was 12v like the system in my corrado... very simple too, 2 motors and a switch :)
