    My ghetto FX-R retro smileys

Long story short I wasnt happy with my light set up ( bosch euro smileys ) with DDM's 6k bulbs and 55w ballast.

i loved the cool cut off

well after being on HIDPLANTED.com for the past 3 weeks I decided to go bi-xenon retro.

I found some new FX-R's at a great price and had them in my hands 2 days later. I wanted to go bright so I wanted to use OEM Phillips bulbs but i need some asap so I went cheap DDM 5k d2r bulbs. Pix speak for themselves.

    pass side finished

    so sad

    driverside done

yes i used aluminum tape :D

daylight test , bulbs are still brand new , no color shift yet

    lil darker

    darkness

    with highs

    back at home

over all, this is great as fuck! I do have one issue or 2.. Got a noticable hot spot on the driver side and looks like I have a faulty pass. side bulb. When highs kicked on its like daylight!

The euro ones are $20 with projectors.

if you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for the FX stuff?

i was going to do the same thing out a a set of euro projectors and one of the sets of MB or BMW HID projectors i have.

                  the
fx units are way more compact and completey self contained, unlike the stuff i have that would require me making some sort of backing.

Nice--welcome to the dark side. ;)

I have found Alu tape to be less than satisfactory seal-wise. However unfortunately there are not a whole lot of other options due to lack of space.

                    Enjoy the shutter stutter

i got lucky on ebay :D lets just say i paid under 100 for the fx-r's and 33 bux at ddm for d2r bulbs and wires for my ddm ballast.

thanks man, yeah i was doing that tonight. the shutters are loud haha. Fuck hit high's and it was like day light. Got a chance to test the lights out in fog too. Im just not happy with the 5k ddm bulbs, the color output its yellowish and the hotspot on driverside and the dullness on passenger side. I love how wide the out put is. i parked next to a new es350 and my lights had a sharper cut off and was twice as bright. I figured those would have been better from what everyone on HP said.

well it looks like i am going to have to do some learning on that site.

i have 3 pairs of the hella HIDs with EVERYTHING, once i figure out what i can use with those projectors as far as wiring and balasts, i will off load the unneeded stuff there.

i may hit you up to make sure i am not getting fucked on a trade deal or getting bad info.

I have E55s in mine and there are considerable gaps and aren't sealed at all and I really haven't had any issues with it.

Also the Morimoto bulbs perform noticeably better than the DDM ones if you are ever looking for a cheap upgrade.

its a pretty basic set up. HID projectors , bulbs , ballast and connector.
