Smoked = MHW. Spend the money, you'll be happy you did.

if you are patient and decent with a paint gun you can get homemad smoked lights to look good....

wetsand the lights wth areoun 1200.... then mix a very very small amount of black paint with clear coat and spray very light coats to make a base and then two thick coats....

use that 1200-2000 grit wetsanding to polsih out the orange peel.... then use a fine rubbing compound/polish to get the finish you desire...

if you dont wetsand evenly then the tail lights will not look uniformly smoked.

i use chroma base paints and clear.... with a SATA gun

i tinted my own with VHT tinting spray, 12.95 at Ziebart(not sure if you'll have one) 00ronburgandy00 on here gave me the idea. He did his own too on the 318 he sold. Both cars came out pretty good IMO.

Might as well spray paint them with stright black paint.

Dustin, I like the look of that. How much did it effect the light output?

if you go to any hobby store, you will find special (tint paint) that is used on R/C cars for their windows. It is a rather small can, but you should be able to do both taillights with 1 can. Just put a few coats on it. It doesn't make it look black. If you want, do one taillight and compare it with the other tiallight to see how dark it gets. Then clearcoat it with the same brand clearcoat..

I think the brand is called "testors" for models and R/C cars. Give it a try..

that will last about 4 months before it starts to degrade from exposure from the sun. model paint isn't meant to be exposed to the elements. we've been through this 1000x already...

i'm sorry, but smoking tails yourself looks retarded. the only reason i painted mine red was because i know eventually i will get the MHW smoked tails. after a while, the smoked-yourself tails will start to look like shit. just save up and get the real thing. its very, very worth it and the pics dont do MHW's justice, they look amazing in person.

I bought them myself after I got rid of the other ones. They are definitely worth it. Great custom look. I would do that anyday compared to tinting them yourself, but i was 17, hardly knew anything about what was out there. what could u do.
