    HID's in US ellipsoids?

so i just picked up some us ellipsoids. the light output is eh. ok. a little better than my old sealed beams.
my question is: should i install some HID's? i'm very adamant about not putting xenon lights in reflector housings.
are these projector housings designed to be used with HID's? i do not want to be that annoying guy who blinds oncoming traffic.
they seem to have a pretty pronounced cut off but i just want to be sure before i lay down $200 for a kit.

    thanks

No E30 projector headlight was DESIGNED to be used with HIDs. It works out OK though since they have cut-offs in them that keep the light out of other drivers' eyes.

I have HIDs in my Euro ellipsoids & it is decent. Others have run them in their US ellipsoids and I believe that they got decent, SAFE results with them too.

If you are going to do it, ONLY use 4500K bulbs from a reputable source (not DDM). DDM makes OK ballasts, but toss their bulbs into the trash. Get some Morimoto 4500K bulbs from www.retrofitsource.com and get OEM-color light output in bulbs that will last a few years.

I was looking at the morimoto 5000k kit for myself.
I like the look of the pure white light output and 4300k vs 5000k light output is almost identical. Although I understand 4300 will statistically always have the best output.
In your opinion... Is it worth it? I don't feel unsafe driving at night as is. But I like the look of xenons and having better light output is always good

It's definitely worth it. The US projectors contain the light enough to make a big difference over standard headlight bulbs and not blind people. I've never been high beamed in any of my E30s with HIDs.

4500K, all the way. Plain and simple.

I like everything he wrote here.

I got some g4 ballasts and bulbs on ebay, the cheaper ballasts worked out great but the miromoto bulbs arent that much more and have more of an instant start, and a tougher build

All of the very cheap bulbs are the same maker pretty much I forget its name but its an hid giant. They are getting better but I would invest the extra in sort of a better quality knock off bulb from miromoto, basically an exact or oem of the phillips bulbs.

and 4300k color looks so much better than ice blue or 6000k which is the most popular upgrade.. its brighter too forget what your favorite color is, white is brightest.

now that i recognize the difference, whenever i see blue hids I just think, cheap incorrecly aimed ebay sets like mine. And most of the time thats right, its just in a camry.
Whenever I see white ones, I think class, oem self leveling 700 option when new.

what is 5000k like compared to 4300k? i thought 5000k was white white with a hint of blue and 4300k was halogen yellow.

It depends on the brand. However, 5000 K is usually white. Not yellow. Just white. 6000 K is slightly blue.

                  No.

                  >6000K = you are either 16, or just a giant toolbag.

6000K = you are a filthy ricer. Blue as shit.

5000K = still a ricer, mostly because all the cheap crap "5000K" bulbs sold out there are actually 6000K ones with a different label. Real 5000K ones are OK, although still not as good as 4500K from a functional standpoint.

4500K = You are OK, and not a dirty ricer. They put out the most light that your eye is sensitive to, and anyone looking at the front of your car can tell that you have Xenons, not Halogens (which is what most people are ACTUALLY worried about).

<4000K = yup, you are a dirty ricer, once again...or think you are a French rally driver.

I want to say to the op

that ellipsoids are projectors. ellipsoid and projector are the same thing. But those in the middle technology era like our cars use the word ellipsoid for a projector made before hid systems.

but theres two things still missing from a modern hid system,
theres something that cleans the lens ( either a wiper or a sprayer) and a leveling system that makes sure it doesnt blind people.

A lot of people lower their cars and if an hid system didnt adjust it would point up into peoples eyes.

Also I think if you have hids for your brights, going to 3000k is fine for that for yellow brights. So if you are just doing the headlights go 4300 or 5000k but if you are doing both I like yellow brights. thats not ricer thats luxury car.

You're an idiot, unless you are referring to people lowering only the rear. In which case, see my first point.

First there is a difference between a halogen and HID projector/elisp
Second not all cars with HIDs have leveling systems and wipers and sprayers.
Third most that do adjust do so for cornering

Pffff. HIDs in Ellipsoids are great. They may not have been "designed" for HIDs, but they work great.

What is lacking in the stock ellipsoids that doesn't lend it's self to HIDs? The bulb placement?

                              youre a straight moron.

Most lowering kits say right on them lowers 1.5 in the back and 1 in the front. that changes the angle the headlights are pointing.

Its so common I can tell you have no idea what youre talking about on anything, like about 30 other teenagers who lurk around here lol.
