    Rear fog light

Previous owner got the bulb holder from i guess a euro car and cut out the spot for the reae fog light, he wired it so that it came on whenever the light switch is on, anyone have any input whether its worth hooking it up correctly to the rear fog light switch thats already in the car? And if so, is the wiring already in the car or do i need to make up a harness?

I'd change it to light up with the brakes, more brake light is always better haha, then do the other side and you have 5 brake bulbs instead of 3... That's what I did anyway.

Somebody rear ending me during normal driving is a bigger priority than rear fog to me

I wanted to do this but the reality is no one in America really knows wtf they are so they might be more confusing than helpful. I wired mine in tandem with the parking lights. I wanted to do a dual filament bulb but couldn't work out how to do it without either soldering a lead to the bulb itself or hacking up the taillight bracket

I've wired one up in my current e30 and have in my past two also. Like said above most don't know what it is and is confusing to them. But with that said, they have noticed you cause of the confusion and wondering what it is. Its a steady constant bright red light (looks like a stuck brake light). You only use it in heavy fog, rain or snow. If you don't live in an area with these weather conditions, then another brake light would be best for that spot. I would like to get a set of export tails for my Jeep Cherokee and put the rear fog in it also.

The stock US tails don't have the reflective backing in the spot for the rear fog, so I used heat duct tape since it is chrome like and will reflect the light in the housing.

I am a big fan of more light to grab their attention, and designed a retrofit for early and late E30 lights to add two tail and two brake high output bulbs inside the stock locations. You may have seen this already...

My opinion on rear fogs --

Have it look different enough from stock brakes and tails that it MUST be something else besides a stuck switch - or more common, a meatball resting his or her foot on the brake pedal. I would use a round light, separate and distinct from tail lights, so that there was no confusion. As you said, you will get their attention better if they see it, and wonder what the hell it is.
