    85w or Nightbreaker?

I'm craving more high beam light to go with my HID lows/fogs but I want to stick with an incandescent application, when I need my highs on I need the NOW.

New from Osram it seems are these:

They seem interesting but I can't imagine they'd be that much better than the Philips VisionPlus (which I'm currently using) or the Silverstars.

For the same price I could get these:

I considered using those in my lows before I got my HIDs but the possibility of high heat output steered me away. I'm not sure that would be as much of an issue with a high beam though, as they are not staying on for long periods of time.

Anyone have any opinions? I'm looking for WRC-like light output which I've already achieved for low end of things, now I want my highs to match!

    Thanks!
    Brendan

I have PIAA Xtreme white plus' and they are very bright. They are 4000k incandescent bulbs and PIAA has a new intense white out now that are 4100k. But the Intense white only has a few bulb type selections available where the extreme white plus is available in every bulb type. They are a bit pricey but worth it IMHO.

I don't buy squat from UK just due to the exchange rate.

I have a set of 130w H1s for my highs, I like them a lot, though bulb life isn't great. You also need to add a relay to handle the additional current.

Set me back $6 a bulb

That's precisely why I haven't spent the money on the PIAAs yet, it seems to me if they're DOT legal then they have to be within the inspection cap. I really don't care what's legal in the US for my high beams because they are strictly for my safety.

I understand about the inspection cap of the PIAA's but honestly I don't see how they are legal. I mean I have people flash me all the time with just my low beams on and they then see what high beams are all about !!! LOL

That has a lot to do with aim though. No one bothers me if I have my lows on, but with lows and fogs I get flashed all the time. I've heard great things about PIAA bulbs but most of it is advertising, it's good to hear a users perspective. Have you ever used Osram Silverstars or Philips VisionPlus? I'd be interested to see a comparison...

What bugs me about the PIAAs though is that here you have a bulb claiming to be the brightest bulb allowed in the US and then there are the bulbs from europe which claim to be the brightest bulbs in europe, which has a higher ceiling for inspection limitations... Do you judge by price or the manufacturers lofty claims?

                  So confusing....!

It's this speed shop/Hella distributor in PA that has them. They are apparently Hella brand bulbs, and on the back of them it says "Not for use in Europe" or something to that effect.
