Some 88's had them and all 89's I believe.
They are not the same as the European ellipsoids if that's what you're thinking but they are a big improvement over sealed ebam bulbs.Comment

K, thanks guys.
I've just been looking at priced for any sort of ellipsoids. Ideally, I wanted euros but I thought it may be cheaper and easier to find the US ellipsoids (if I'm lucky, from a wrecker or something.) I didn't want to spend the $300 US theyre going for, or however much they are, so I've been trying to think of alternatives. Ebay seems like a route that people take as well...
Is there any serious disadvantage to having US ellipsoids instead of euros?'91 E30 M42 DIAMANTSCHWARZ

They cutoffs are just better on the e-code lights. They use H1 bulbs all around, while the US ones use 9006 and 9005.Originally posted by FrustratedMunkyK, thanks guys.

The euro ellips have a very nice output with the H1's all around. I would reccomend them over evetyhign else, it's worth it. You can probably get a set for under $200 shipped.
Then get some Osram Silverstar bulbs.Comment

Off Ebay most likely I'm guessing? I just saw a set off Ebay going for $208 or something on the "Buy it Now" thing, so that's probably mean. Are there other adapters that I need to buy afterwards or is it usually just the bulbs that I have to buy?'91 E30 M42 DIAMANTSCHWARZ

All you have to get is a couple connecters so they plug in to your car. No boltsComment

I've had both, and I still prefer ellips over the H4s.Originally posted by MystikalI'd recommend getting Hella H4's first. Many note better lighting performance compared to ellips.

Interesting. I have never heard of anyone that liked the H4's more than the Euro ellips.Originally posted by MystikalI'd recommend getting Hella H4's first. Many note better lighting performance compared to ellips.Comment

I have some of the older style and I think their great also in H1 variety. Early H1/H1 set ups are bright.Comment

where are you seeing $300 for euro ellips? smoked go for less than that sometimes, clears usually go for around $150 used but in good shape. check ebay, there's always a set for sale. (stay away from the cheap knock offs though)Comment
