what are you talking about the sealed beam hasnt? and jumping a relay isnt all that ghetto. its a simple electrical trick to get around extensive re-wiring.

With sealed beams, the low beams will turn off when the high beams are turned on. Ellipsoids don't turn off when the high beams are turned on.
And putting a wire between 2 relays is ghetto. Im going to pull everything off and rewire it when I get some time anyway. Do it right the 1st time and you won't have comebacks.

No they don't. The low beams are dual filament, when the highs are activated, the high beam lamp will come on and the low beam's high will be on as well. That is how the sealed beams were on my 318is at least and they were the stock lamps.
Also, I can understand wanting to rewire everything to do it "right" but you are wasting your time. Jumping the relays takes 10 minutes and it is not visible until you pull the relays out. There is nothing "ghetto" about it unless you use more wire than necessary and have it hanging out of the fuse box.-Justin

That was written incorrectly. But the car that I have now, has the hellas, and before it did have the seal beams. The owner before had the proper wiring so it was plug and play. When the high beams were on, the low beams would turn off, and the 'city lights' would turn on.I got a fender roller now! I don't understand why you're are arguing with me when you already told me this...
its a relay thing. on cars equipped with sealed beams from the factory, the low beam is a dual filament bulb. therefore, when you flip on the high beam, the power is switched to the 2nd filament of the low beam, and is removed from the 1st filament which is what the new smileys are wired into. solution: theres a relay jump you can do to eliminate this. youll have to search for it, its one of the tricks to get independent fogs that also allows you to keep on highs/lows at the same time.I got a fender roller now! you said it was ghetto, as if it was going to break and cause a fire or something. I'm just saying it works fine and will probably last longer than you have the car. And it's not like anyone can see it, so the argument for rewiring anything is pretty weak. At least the jumper is easily reverted back to stock, which makes it less of a hack job IMO..Comment

Well, there is where our problem is. Ghetto is used loosely in this thread. My definition for ghetto is not up to par. Jumping the wire does do the job, but it's still not up to par in my book, hence why earlier I said 'to each his own' because something that is just good enough and works for you, isn't good enough to me. I'm pretty much done with this thread. Thank you for the help guys. And thanks for the mini arguments :-PI got a fender roller now! but why? you don't have a good argument as to why it's not a "solid" modification. If it works forever, nobody can see that it's just a wire, and it never causes an issue, and it's easily reversable, what is wrong with it?Comment

How about this... When/If the relay does go bad, that would mean I would have to desolder or replace both relays verse just replacing 1 relay.

Soldered connections are actually bad in cars, because the vibrations will weaken and break the solder and the wires will come apart. Just put a dab of solder on the end of the wire (so the individual strands don't smush out), stick the ends in the right pins of the plug and put the relays on top. :)Comment
