Any time I spend a lot of time looking for an answer I can't find on the internet, I try to make a thread about it.
I was itemizing/labeling all of my 13 button OBC harnesses tonight and noticed that there was an oddball engine bay 13 button OBC harness that I hadn't noticed previously.
Interior 13 button OBC harness-wise, you have early and late.
Early is: 12/83 - 09/87 p/n 1373727
Late is: 09/87+ p/n 1385794
However, the engine bay harness that runs down to the OBC horn has a few variations, most of which I knew of, one of which I didn't.
1373729 - I only see this harness on 84-85 cars, but realOEM lists it from 12/83 - 09/86. It is the harness that has an OBC horn or something on the driver strut tower, mounted under the p/s reservoir bolt. Round ambient temp sensor plug. Two extra spade connectors engine bay side of firewall than 1380015 has, both with double wires (dbl brown and dbl red w white dot) that run to whatever is on the strut tower.
1380015 - This is only listed on RealOEM for Euro cars but I usually see it on 86 325e/eS. It's the same as 1381207 but has spade connectors for the OBC horn instead of the late model blue connector. Round ambient temp sensor plug. No extra wires for strut tower. Also has an extra single wire green connector under the dash by the other plugs on the harness that 1373729 and 1381207 don't have.
1381207 - The oddball that I didn't knew existed. RealOEM lists this as 09/86-09/87, but it is the same functionally as the 88-89 harness (1386258) in that it has the blue late model OBC horn plug, and round ambient temp sensor plug, BUT, this harness has a sliiiightly longer lead for the green four wire OBC module plug. The difference here is that 1381207's two green wire plug plugs into the INTERIOR side of the 13 button OBC harness, and runs over to the engine harness to immobilize via the c104. On the 88-89 harness, although exactly the same otherwise, the two green wire plug plugs into the CHASSIS harness and immobilizes via the c101 instead, so they for whatever reason changed the length of the aforementioned plug, giving it a different p/n.
1386258 - RealOEM lists as 09/87 - 05/89. Same as 1381207, but with a slightly shorter lead to the 4 wire green OBC module plug and thus interchangeable with 1381207.
1386982 - 05/89+. Same as 1386258 other than the change in ambient temp sensor plug connector type. Changed from round black two wire to the yellow later ambient temp sensor plug.
That's all, folks.
