Ok, I did it! I went with the JVC Arsenal KD-A615. It was priced just a bit more than the Sony so i didnt have to cringe too much when clicking "Purchase". Its on backorder right now but they get them in on the 17th. Cant wait!

Thank goodness, the speaker wires out of the JVC deck were ridiculously flimsy; 22, 24 gauge? My iphone earbud wires are more substantial.

I understand you have to cut costs somewhere to get to a price, but holy cow. Any more than 20 watts would probably smoke them...

On a somewhat related note, do any decks have decent amps built in? They all seem to be 50-55w per channel and are total pewp. I guess you can't fit much in the small space though..

No, they are about 15 watts per channel, nothing makes anywhere near 45 watts per channel.

I installed my friends' low/mid end Kenwood KDC-HD942U (http://outlet.crutchfield.com/p_113H...enwood&tp=5684) and I hated setting it up. It's menu layout is terrible.

Can't say for their higher end offerings.

Oh, just a Caveat on the deck, iPod browsing is a pain in the ass.

It is faster than my Pioneer from 2 years ago, but the it goes back to the top of the list whenever you exit the menu (either it times-out to display, or you choose a track and want to choose another track), and there is no 'skip to letter' feature on it that my friends' kenwood does so if you wanna play the White Stripes, and you have nearly 400 artists, it may take awhile.

Well that sucks. Maybe they'll correct that with the 815...

You can buy every model with bluetooth in a non-bluetooth variant.

Crutchfield has been out of the 805 for a while now, afaik. I got mine on Amazon. In a couple of weeks the 815 will be available but it'll cost more.

Well, unfortunately they dont carry any of the HU im interested in R805 or R900...they do have the AHD69 which replaces the bluetooth with HD Radio...depending on this "wiring" package they provide and whether i need it or not i may or may not go with the AHD69 and go somewhere else to buy the R805 or R900. Although, i forgot CF does have a Arsenal KD-A615 unit that's not bad looking either....so many options

Oh, the Sony i bought is in the mail and heading back home...

EDIT: I just searched the CF website and they DO have the Arsenal KD-A805. I think i'll grab that one.

My e30 (91) did not have a factory plug for the headunit to plug into. Rather, there were individual connections for the power, ground, speakers, illumination and power antenna. It was a real pain in the ass to crimp the correct type of connectors for the individual connections. Plus, the speaker wires had crazy post and spade connectors that don't fit anything available at the local auto parts house. I had trouble with my factory speaker wires and ended up running fresh cable. If you are new to installing your own, and Crutchfeild offers a wiring harness that plugs right in, its worth the difference in price.

The Pac OEM-2 is a device to connect an aftermarket HU to a common ground system, or to connect a factory radio to aftermarket amplifiers. Whether you need it depends on how your car is wired and how you plan to wire your system.

You do not need any extra parts at all to properly install a deck in an E30

Even for a noob like me? Is there a handy write up on this? I know to search around and i will but just thought i'd throw that out there...
