I am from Canada, maybe different markets? The local car audio specialty shop had it on clearance a month or two back, so perhaps its discontinued for 2010.

My KD-R800 has unsmoked chrome accents. Pics on page 1.

The KD-R805 was about $100 more than what I got my R800 for. If it was less than $50 difference I would've gone with the R805 just for the higher voltage pre-outs alone.

I don't seem to show the KD-R805 as a US model?

Sorry, I was thinking R800 vs R805. I am not familiar with the R900.

KD-R805 has 4v pre-outs, steering wheel controls and 2-year warranty that the 800 doesn't have.

You may be correct the the 805 may be equivalent to the 900.

I could swear the 900 and the 805 have the same specs. The differences are cosmetic. The 900 has chrome accents and a flip down face, the 805 has "smoked chrome" accents.

I had ordered the 900 first and returned it for the 805. The chrome was too much bling for me and the flip down face didn't buy a larger display - it is the same size as the 805, only in a different place.

Having lived with the 805, the 900's controls are probably easier to find by touch, especially the up down, left right control on the far left of the face.

I have the JVC KD-R805, which is half a step down from the R900 (same features, but without the high voltage pre-out and some other pro options). It looks the same as the KD-R600 but with a dot matrix display:

    Daylight

    Dimmer color-match:

I'm running stock speakers in the rear deck area and aftermarket tweets and kick panel speakers at full range, no amp but I do have an amp for my bass 2-12"s in a sealed box. I love my set up, oh and I can also match the amber color of the e30 cluster.

I personally would not buy a deck without:

    High pass filters
    3 sets of preouts
    Bluetooth
    USB

Any one of those features not there is an absolute deal breaker to me.

that KD-R900 can be had for under $200.

    ramen isn't THAT bad....
I found the KD R900 for $179. Is there a big difference b/w this and the KD R610 ($139)? I'm definitely sending the Sony back
