    What the story with car audio eq's? I see that there are some really cheap knock off of that old school kenwood eq (5 band) - how crappy are these?



    (I know someone is going to say something like "you don't need an eq with a proper system" blah blah blah. Yea, in a perfect world. Neither the world or my system will ever be perfect - so I'd like an eq)

    Anyone know about these cheap EQ's? Or what to look for in one?

    Trade you my super awesome 1/2 DIN Precision Audio Pro EQ for a couple GG stealth voltmeters.

      GG, I think the old Kenwood is still available. I just saw it some where recently....

      I had one of these back in the day and it made a lot more sense then the bigger in dash EQ's. Perfect for quick subtle adjustments while driving.

        Those old Kenwood 4042's are still out there pretty cheap. I used to have one in high school and loved that little EQ. 5 band, sub on/off, level control....just the essentials. I only got rid of it because I upgraded to the 9 band digital EQ with spectrum analyzer.

          i got lucky my headunit has a built in 16 band eq, i love it, i get the sound adjusted how i like it then i leave it alone.

                      No worries on that. The car is such an imperfect environment for audio that some sort of eq'ing is almost always necessary for that 'perfect' system. When I was younger and dumber and just starting in car audio I had a couple of Boss speakers and HU and from that experience I could almost guarantee you that they use lower quality compenents in their eq's unless they're re badging.
