    Equalizer

What the story with car audio eq's? I see that there are some really cheap knock off of that old school kenwood eq (5 band) - how crappy are these?

(I know someone is going to say something like "you don't need an eq with a proper system" blah blah blah. Yea, in a perfect world. Neither the world or my system will ever be perfect - so I'd like an eq)

Anyone know about these cheap EQ's? Or what to look for in one?

GG, I think the old Kenwood is still available. I just saw it some where recently....

      edit: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/cat_m...qualizers.html

I had one of these back in the day and it made a lot more sense then the bigger in dash EQ's. Perfect for quick subtle adjustments while driving.

Those old Kenwood 4042's are still out there pretty cheap. I used to have one in high school and loved that little EQ. 5 band, sub on/off, level control....just the essentials. I only got rid of it because I upgraded to the 9 band digital EQ with spectrum analyzer.

There's a semi-period correct Blaupunkt unit, NIB on eBay right now. Ridic coin.

Those dingy 5 banders won't get you too far if you want to get the most of out your setup.

No worries on that. The car is such an imperfect environment for audio that some sort of eq'ing is almost always necessary for that 'perfect' system. When I was younger and dumber and just starting in car audio I had a couple of Boss speakers and HU and from that experience I could almost guarantee you that they use lower quality compenents in their eq's unless they're re badging.

GG, find an EQQ or EQX. Best price/performance option there is.
