This is most definitely a ported ONLY woofer. The 10" sounds just incredible in my boxes, which are 1.5 cubic feet tuned to 34hz with 2) 3" ports.

The 12" so far looks like a winner too.

I think I am gonna pop in on my way south this weekend and pick a 10" DVC up for my E34.

My goal is to see if I can make my E34 sound "audiophile grade" for under $750 total, counting one of my E34 boxes ($220), that Jensen 5 channel amp ($140) on an Obcon 10" DVC ($40) and one of my 10 channel passive crossovers ($200) all behind the JVC KD-R900 ($150) using Monoprice.com cables ($12) and stock 21 year old speakers...

              Where to start...

Well i know i'm treating myself to a lukebox for christmas just need some constructive criticism on putting together a parts list that really work well with each other
              Kenwood Kac7201 amp
              150 watts RMS x 2 at 4 ohms
              230 watts RMS x 2 at 2 ohms
460 watts RMS x 1 bridged output at 4 ohms
              4-ohm stable in bridged mode
              Tri-Way capable

              Pioneer GM-5300T 2-Channel 760-Watt
              4 Ohm 125 Watts x 2 Output Power
              4 Ohm Bridged 380 Watts x 1 Output Power
              2 Ohm 190 Watts x 2 Output Power
1 Watt into 4 Ohms 75 dBA Signal to Noise

              2x Infinity Reference SVC 1030w
              1x Infinity REF1050W DVC 1062w

              Headunit
              Pioneer DEH 6800MP
JVC KD-SH99 needs ribbon cable =(

              Speakers
              2x Alpine Type S 5.25
              4x Pioneer 140w 5.25
              2x pioneer TS-G95OM 6x9
              2x Sony xplod 5.25
              4x Infinity Reference 5.25
xx almost unlimited supply of bmw premium sound

For starters i will be playing anything from Rammstein to Tchaikovsky and maybe dubstep to annoy the neighbors. I am considering fitting
-alpine type r 6.5s in the kickpanel or map pockets?
              -upgrading tweeters
-luke box ported through the rear deck?
-rear speakers maybe the alpine type s or something louder?
-JVC KW-NT50HDT or equally awesome headunit w/o the insane price

              My experiences
My friend used to have a set of OLD 12" Kicker comp VR's powered by a 2ch sony xplod 1200w amp in a massive sealed box that when installed in my old geo metro unglued the rear view mirror, and he said they had it in a 88 turbo coupe with a different amp and had difficulty breathing. This is what i'm looking for if the aformentioned parts bin is insufficient then lead the way to audiogasmism.

On a side note the 2 enclosures i have for these subs now suck one of them is a insanely heavy Q-logic ported box built to house 12" subs but has adapter rings to fit the 10's so i'm sure there is major room for improvement with your boxes. Not to mention having the bass energy trapped in the trunk making my car queef to da beat if i don't tape open those 2 fresh air flaps

Tried to keep that as organized as i could thanks Luke!
              -Mike

oh holy shit, that is hilarious!

OK, if you really want to annoy the neighbors, I can't help. One of the main benefits is that the sound is kept inside the car, so the whole "boomin' the hood" happens only when the windows are open. It is really amazing how much of the sound is kept in the car.

Second, the rear deck ports are not used with the 10" box, only the 12".

If you really want to play dubstep LOUD, you really should do a 12" anyway.

Either of those amps on one of the 1030s will make awesome bass in one of my 10" boxes, but neither will piss off the neighbors. The DVC 10" will work perfectly with a smaller mono amp, but not at all with the 2 channel amps.

                Luke

Ok think i'll take the 12" as i don't have a ski pass through, despite being informed by davesmed that it's just a faux piece of cardboard in the way.
Apparently on a 318is it is a solid wall of steel, maybe it's just my car being a oddball as with most cars i pick up (it has a rear valence with a dual tip cutout instead of single and no signs of molestation.

Now i have to save up for a 12" sub that will make me happy every time i pop the trunk. With some input from anyone the wiser on car audio. I know about as much as a sales rep from best buy lol.

Also any thoughts on 6.5 mids for the front and tweeters and something for the backseat passengers if the 12" box allows it. I have alpine type s back there and they are about the best speaker i've had the luxury of hearing. So with that said i have considered type r for the 6.5 midbass

My budget is going to be about 1k about what i just spent to put together a fresh all stainless 304 exhaust with vbands for the x pipe / catalyst. hopefully it will all be sorted by the end of january and i can have some install pics to post up

The 12" does not interfere with the rear speakers. If you aren't opposed to cutting holes in your doors, you can fit some pretty big stuff in there.

One of the beautiful things about my subs is that you really don't need muchpower or that big a woofer to get serious boom...I know, we all want huge stuff, but you can get about 140db with 200 watts on a $50 woofer.

Let me know what woofer you have in mind and what your time frame is for payment. You are the only person asking for a 12" right now, but I will be doing one in my early car, so I have to set all that stuff up anyway.

Not opposed to it being that doors are replaceable, just a huge undertaking as i'm trying to get this thing on the road as my daily driver, and yes stereo is a priority lol

I believe you that a 10" would be more then sufficient, but i don't want to cut a hole in my ski pass since it didn't come with one. I like the aesthetic feature of the ports on the rear deck which is a big selling point for me. Just like if i were to eventually swap an s54 into the car, 68.1% of the time i will be driving like grandpa shifting at just off idle even though it's a r3v happy beast. Just like having the option to push things off the deep end, way past insane every once and awhile.

First few that caught my eye. I am a bit fanatical about kicker's and having this might set off my buddy and make him pester you for a vert box with the power top version

-Kicker Solo Baric would i be commiting a mortal sin taking a router to that awesome box? :pimp:
-Audiobahn I've read you don't particularly like them. My experiences with them were short but great! Ten years back I bought a loaded enclosure they were 12" DVC, and even with that kenwood 800 2ch amp holy crap! Returned them a week later for the $500 though
                      -SR12 RE AUDIO
-Alpine Type R undecided have to give a listen to a buddy of mine at work says it is SPL worthy

Just got my DVC shark in the mail. Thought it was funny how their 15 year warranty is only good for 12 months. Not sure how that works.
