    Fog light Relay

Does anyone know where one can purchase a Fog Light Relay for under $15? I believe its part # 61-31-1-380-013 or 61-31-1-374-631 and the relay color is black.

I've been doing a bunch of electrical work lately and have compiled a list of all the relays I've come across on the various boards. Here's the list, perhaps it may help you find a less expensive relay. I've had good luck at my local BMW dealer getting relays for cheap. They'll usually knock the price down if you haggle a bit. Hope this helps.

Disclaimer, these are the relays based upon the best information I have. It's possible your wiring is different than what I have found. Here's the relays for a late model sealed beam car:

    K1 Normal speed relay - 61 31 1 375 474, Orange plastic case
    K2 Horn relay - 61 31 1 375 474, Orange plastic case
K3 High beam relay - 03 32 204 401, Bosch PN, metal case with violet stripe
    K4 Low beam relay - 61 31 1 373 912, Black plastic case, no tabs.
    K5 Unloader relay - 61 31 1 375 474, Orange plastic case
    K6 High speed fan relay - 61 31 1 375 474, Orange plastic case
    K7 Unloader relay - 61 31 1 375 474, Orange plastic case
    K8 Fog light relay - 61 31 1 375 474, Orange plastic case

Most of the relays (474) are your basic make contact relays with a resistor across the coil. The 474 is not available any longer. The alternates may not still be available. Orange is recommended.
    61 31 1 378 238 - Orange plastic case, with tabs.
    61 31 1 373 156 - Green plastic, no tabs.
    61 31 1 378 301 - Yellow (gelb) plastic case, with tabs.
    03 32 019 456 (Bosch) - Orange plastic case, with tabs.
    0 332 014 454 (Bosch) - Light blue plastic, no tabs.

The K3 (401) relay is a 5 pin changeover relay with a resistor. The original metal case is no longer available. The 911 part is recommended
    61 36 1 388 911 - Violet plastic case with mounting tabs.
    03 32 209 151 (Bosch) - Black plastic case.

The K4 I'm not absolutely sure about. This is the one that has the most variance over the years. According to the diagram, it's a 5 pin relay with dual outputs where the output legs are not tied. The 912 fits the bill for that. If yours only takes a 4 pin relay, it's likely it's the 474 part from earlier. Here are some alternates.
    61 31 1 373 911 - Mint green plastic case, with tabs.
    61 36 8 353 447 - Mint green plastic case, with tabs.

    more:

    K1, K2, K4, K5, K6, K7 - 4 pin. Basic make-contact relay with current limiting resistor across the coil. Typical part numbers:
    61 31 1 373 156 - Green plastic, no tabs.
    61 31 1 375 474 - Orange plastic case, no tabs.
    61 31 1 378 238 - Orange plastic case, with tabs.
    61 31 1 378 301 - Yellow (gelb) plastic case, with tabs.
    03 32 019 456 (Bosch) - Orange plastic case, with tabs.
    03 32 014 454 (Bosch) - Light blue plastic, no tabs.

K3 - 5 pin. Change-over relay with current limiting resistor. 87a is hot at rest, 87 is hot with the relay energized.
    03 32 204 401 (Bosch) - Metal case with violet stripe.
    61 36 1 388 911 - Violet plastic case with mounting tabs.
    03 32 209 151 (Bosch) - Black plastic case.

K8 - 4 pin. Make-contact relay with current limiting resistor and a diode on the output leg of the coil.
    61 31 1 374 631 - Black plastic case, no tabs.
    61 31 1 380 013

Main Relay - 5 pin. Make-contact relay with surge suppression diode across the coil and a diode on the input leg of the coil. Output provides dual 87 pins.
    12 63 1 711 266 - White plastic case, with tabs.
    61 36 1 729 004 - White plastic case, with tabs.
    12 63 1 729 004 - White plastic case, with tabs.

Fuel Pump and O2 heater relays - 4 pin. Basic make-contact relay with current limiting resistor across the coil.
    61 31 1 373 156 - Green plastic, no tabs.
    61 31 1 375 474 - Orange plastic case, no tabs.
    61 31 1 378 238 - Orange plastic case, with tabs.
    61 31 1 378 301 - Yellow (gelb) plastic case, with tabs.
    03 32 019 456 (Bosch) - Orange plastic case, with tabs.
    03 32 014 454 (Bosch) - Light blue plastic, no tabs.

K8 absolutely must have that diode, or your car will do weird shit.

Or you can just shell out the $15 and bite the bullet. It's not a terrible price, but it's not the best either. Are you trying to accomplish independent fog lights?

no...not independent fogs....just the regular hook up. I switched to a plastic bumper with the integrated fogs and the lights went crazy. Headlights stayed on real low..when i hit the switch to turn them off...they didn't go off. I've solved my problem..I found an 0013 K8 relay in a car at the junk yard. Since then the lights have worked properly.

The wipers have the same kinda of relay.

don't bother getting one from a yard, it'll only cause you more stress.

                "Huh?" on both counts.

The wiper module is the size of three relays and has twice the amount of terminals, not to mention it works completely different.

And I get tons of that stuff from yards. $3 for 5 complete E30s worth of relays. Why not!
