    recommend me some tweeters

So, i got a pair of PPI 356cs components, and one of the tweeters shit the bed.
I havent had too much luck finding a single tweeter, and I've had offers that I assumed were pretty high for two.

I guess I will take this opportunity to throw something in this set that are "better",
I'm not looking to spend a fortune and if I can find a stock tweeter for that comp set I'll probably still buy that.

Just looking to expand my options as my car will be on the road in about 2 weeks and I want my stereo to work.

cdt audio silks...sometimes you can get these for $59 a pair and they are very sweet/smooth sounding tweeters when used correctly.

Just so you are clear on this, those are like $450 a set speakers, they ain't cheapies, y'know?

Have you gotten hold of PPI yet? If not, call them first. They may be able to do something for you...after all, they are $450 a set speakers, right?

If they don't, let me know, I may be able to help.

Even high end tweeters can shit the bed? this is surprising to me. What kinda power have you been putting to it?

Exacly my point, no matter what you paid for them, they are still high end shit and may even be under warranty.

Call PPI, they have some good people there.

And, like Barry said, what the hell were you doing to them?

I've got a pair of VIFA Danish units designed for home speakers in the rear. No grilles, but they've got a low crossover point and blend REALLY well with midrange speakers. Velvety smooth too.

I have no idea how it died, i just could hear the sound was off one day, put my ear up to the tweeter no dice.
Check the wiring with an ohm meter from the speaker terminal to the crossover, so the wire is fine.

I unhooked the other side and put it in place and it worked fine, its just that tweeter, I have no idea what I did, I'm running like 150rms to the crossover from an orion amp, so I'm assuming it wasnt seeing too much power....

anyways I'll give PPI a call/email and see what goes from there.

Don't know if it will help or not, but if Grizz Archer responds, feel free to drop my name. I doubt if it will help, but it might be worth a shot.

Like Luke said, see if you can get a warranty replacement. Try to replace it with the same tweeter since the crossovers in those component sets are designed for a specific tweeter.

At the same time, it might work fine with a different tweeter. The crossover will at least protect it from low frequencies, so you can always try.

                      +1

Inexpensive, and they sound great. I can machine them to fit in the stock tweeter pods for some beer $ and the cost of shipping.

                          1. mount tweeter on M7 bolt ...
                          2. cut bolt head off
                          3. mount on drill
                          4. use 80 grit sandpaper on a sanding block.
                          5. cheap-ass way to grind down the plastic to fit the tweeter pod perfectly!.

There are definitely simpler ways to modify tweeters than a Bridgeport mill & Clausing lathe. In the case of my tweeters though, they are filled with ferrofluid, and spinning them makes that fluid go lots of places it shouldn't!

An X-Acto knife would have sufficed. Buuuut, when you have the tools, you wanna use them!

kinda shelved this for a bit while I was working on the mechanical aspect of my car....Luke, i got a hold of PPI and the guy pretty much told me to go pound sand and they dont make them anymore, and its a 2 year warranty or some bullshit.

Should i spring for those SEAS, any opinions on how they will work with my passive PPI crossovers?

My car will be driveable really soon and I want the music to be there with it
