    5 Channel Amp input needed?

So it turns out that my infinity Kappa 5 1200W peak amp is all peak and no RMS. I keep sending it into protection mode when I crank it to 60% volume. I am making it drive four Alpine SPX-17REF @ 4 ohms and one Infinity Reference 1062W@ 2 ohms. Total peak for all speakers is 2100 but RMS is 600watts. I guess I am forcing the amp to work at peak. So I need a new amp to handle the power of my 1062W in my amazing luke box. Input needed.

    Y'know, you should call Infinity.

that amp should be a perfect match to your setup.

50W RMS into a 4 Ohm speaker should be deafening, at least if you have hearing left still (or if you are using super shitty, inefficient speakers). It sounds like there's a defect in the amp. Even crappy speakers can pull ~85dB from 1W easily, and 50W would put you at ~102dB.

You should also adjust the amp gain so that it just starts clipping when the HU is set to 100%. So, the gain is also sounding a little high.

Where did you set your crossover points on your amp?

I will check tomorrow but I don't beleive they where very extreme. I think it is a performance issue from the amp.

Ok it has been a long time since I setup an amp so here is what I am currently running for settings. If it is all wrong please tell me how to correct it.

I would turn DBO to zero: artificial bass boost is a bad idea on a vented box. Maybe 3db, but off is best.

Turn the sub level to MAX, drop the rear level to allow better balance so the front stage is more prominent, maybe drop sub LP crossover point to 80Hz.

That amp should power this thing just fine, unless you are truly aiming for serious loud.

The DBo may have been the culprit but I will give it a day or two to test it out. Adjusted to StereoInstallers1 settings and it sound great we will now see if it kicks into protect. I also put the front at 99% and the rear at 80% to adjust stage.

Well with all your recommended adjustment I can no longer get it to go into protection mode. I will mess with it a little more but I was likely asking to much of it with the dbo cranked up.

Well it appears that my amp still needs help. I cranked up some new Incubus in the car and with little to no bass in the track it sent my amp into overload. It appears that I will be shipping it to the Dealer repair shop in CA. In the future should I not attach the amp to the sub box?

That isn't an issue. Most people (with Luke boxes at least) mount their amps to the box.
