yeah my bad on the grammer. I basiclly just wanted to know if i could use those outputs or if i would need a new HU in order to do it. I'll take a look at the sub in my moms jeep and see if it has its own amp or what. All i know is it has real nice loud undistorted bass, and she would noticed it was gone lol

Yes you can use the rear speaker outputs. I did in my explorer. It worked great. And you need an amp. There are two was to blow a sub. One is givine it too much power, duh. And the other that most people don't know is if you don't give the subs enough power. This causes the sub to hit like if it had the power and become distorted and thus blowing the sub. YOU NEED AN AMP :D

your gonna wanna have an amp with a built in Low pass crossover to filter out all the high frequencies and only let the bass thru.

Or if you already have an amp, you can buy a seperate cross-over unit.

Basically if you use the rear pre-outs from the deck, your gonna be getting vocals, coming from the sub. You need a cross over so the sub only plays Low frequencies (bass).

What he said. It's going to sound shitty. If I were you I would upgrade your headunit before you did anything else.

                    Still shitty, but better...

I don't know if you'd be interested but my friend is selling his 2 12" MTX Thunder 6000 subs, with a kick ass Alpine V12 500x1 mono amp. This setup POUNDS, and we built a nice box for it if you'd want that as well. I think he wants like $200-250 for it all.

Without the box it could all be shipped for $15-20.

Well..... first.... lets get back to the original question.... And clear some things up... a pre-out is a set of RCA's coming out of your deck.... PREamplified OUTput thus pre out. Ok..... so what you are trying to do is use your rear speaker leads from your deck to power some subs. Depending on what deck you have you may run into some problems. Decks internal amplifiers are designed to run 4 ohm speakers. Nothing less. If you tap into this output from the deck you are dropping the ohm load by sharing it with another audio output device (unless of course the device has a higher ohm rating...yada yada.... we'll assume its the same 4ohm rating as the rear speakers) Now..... what may happen is that you CAN fry outputs..... not that you will... but you can. The stereo's outputs are sort of like a pipe. The wattage it puts out is water. The ohms are the size of the pipe... the lower the ohms the bigger the pipe. The stereo "sees" a bigger pipe and trys to flow more water through it. Its only designed to do so much and viola..... it goes poof. Thats something that CAN happen. To be on the safe side you'd only want to run one thing off of a set of outputs unless you know for sure what everythings rating is and so on and so forth. As most decks don't come now without preouts I'd recommend you upgrade your deck. You get what you pay for in the audio business in all honesty. A good entry level deck will run you about 100-150 bux. Not too terrible. Next.... the amp and sub.... Ummm.... the stock subwoofer in the jeep.... Keep it in there. Its been engineered for that system. Don't fool with that cause you KNOW yer mom will have your ass. *LOL* For the trouble and time you can find someone selling something cheap online or around your town. My recommendations are Kenwood or MTX's low end stuff. Cheap but also reliable. For the money you can't beat em. The same with an amp. Kenwood has always made me happy with their products, but if you want to do something and do it right..... try to find some Kove or US Amps products on ebay or something. SOLID amplifiers that you can pick up used that will last FOREVER.

That being said.... I'm interested in yer friends Alpine mono block if he's willing to separate.... Maybe you and I can work a euro parts trade and you and him can work a beer drinking trade?

the deck has both the reagular wire rear speaker outputs and RCA outputs which im pretty sure are pre amp

Ok.... I got confused by the rear speaker pre outs statement. Yes... RCA's are what you want to use. that will work just fine. Get you a decent little amp and find a good lil sub and get some wires and you should be in business. Good luck ;)
