    Battery Teminal...........

My positive battery teminal gets corroded quickly. I just cleaned it for the third within the last 2 weeks. Something new for my car. For referance I have a 92 Alpimeweiss MT2 App Vert, with 145K. New battery, reman alt, new tps. After market Alpine head w/5.25 x 4, no amps. Oh and my ac fan is wired to high speed and comes on when the a/c button is engaged. The a/c fan has been that way for 8 months. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks...................G.

Take a teaspoon of baking soda, add it to a cup of water, stir it, then pour on your terminal and scrub it, this will remove any residual acid. Then you need to spray it with some protection spray to keep it clean.

Clean it up. Then slather some petroleum jelly on the post and clamp. Then put the clamp back on.

This works awesome, BTW. On my wife's car the terminals were so badly corroded that it wouldn't charge anymore. I pulled everything apart and dropped it into a pickle jar with water and baking soda - everything came out sparkling clean. :)

FWIW - I'm glad our batteries are in the trunk, not the engine bay...

Actually I poured a Pepsi on it. Works just as good as baking soda. As my thread states. Clean up is not the issue. I am trying to find out what causes build up that fast? Could there be something in my electrical system that is over charging? Bad re man alt? ?????

It's a chemical reaction and sugar doesn't help (Pepsi). After cleaning you need to protect it with something or it will keep doing it.

Is your hood seal leaking water on the battery? This will speed up the corrosion.

Those little felt black and red washers actually do help as well. Don't use pop to clean the terminal.

^Those felt washers soak up battery electrolyte and hold it against the terminals, and are complete garbage.

OP: your battery is burping acid from the caps, fucking up your terminals and your battery tray. The battery's ability to absorb a charge from your alternator is diminished thus exposing it to an elevated charge rate which is boiling it over.

Also, do you have the temporary style cable clamp ends?

Shitty connections cause rapid oxidation of electrical connectors.
