Yeah, I love it when I see people think out side the box and do something out of the norm, dispite the haters.

I also wonder if they have a finished product. I would imagine the console would need a custom bracket around the console at its own shape and extend about a inch or 2 away towards the dash and around the inner edges of the dash.

The console would have to sit 2+ inches inside the dash but can still look just fine blacking out or chroming the custom outer bracket as decor.

I wounder if anyone in the states done this yet....

I was going to do it like the picture with the gray dash, but was never going to look right.

as it turns out, the E46 cluster conveniently fits inside the E30 cluster. So instead of making a custom machined bracket, use an old E30 cluster as your "bracket". then it should just bolt up once you do all the wiring (which isn't trivial). the idea is to make it look like it was supposed to come that way, instead of being a cluster from a totally different car that you crammed in the dash somehow.

Pretty sure nobody in the states has done it, I've seen one other cluster conversion using a non-M E46 cluster. I think they are using all of the E46 body electronics too.

Either way you're looking at a choice between hardcore rewiring of the entire chassis or doing signal conversions and software mods to make it work with E30 wiring. It's not something you're going to just bolt up with a cheaply made bracket and 15 minutes of wiring. Look at the wiring chart I posted to get some idea of what needs to be done. that's about 1/4 of the entire project..
