Do you make any that are sealed?
Too bad you're on the other side of the country
Would have loved to do a direct comparison between both boxes with the same sub and amp
Too long a drive though :)
You'd be welcome to check out my 12" box.

Oh, this is gonna be good! Keep your mind open, this ain't your typical "one note bass" you can expect from a ported box.

        Post your experiences, guys!

This isnt a thread about how great Lukeboxes are VS other speakerboxes, its about what to do with the 1984 model.

That being said, I have been very hesitant to cut into mine because it looks the same as the pic above. There will be a lot of sharp edges if you cut straight across, but Im not sure what else to do

Why not use a deburring tool after cutting?

Back when I had my 84 318 I cut a hole into the rear bench and noticed no negative side effects. I went to my friends house, took a ski pass template, and cut around the edges. I also used a de-burring tool to remove the sharp edges.

Thanks for the "let's get back on track". I do not have a ski pass available. Sure would love to hear what everyone is bragging about.

Hey Cluna (OP), I guess we are the only ones with the "Original" first year E30. Sucks to think we are the first to try and put a Luke box into one. Seen a few pictures of everyone else taking the easy way out with a hammer. Even seen a few pictures of how a convertible had a huge hack job from a previous owner. Sure don't want to be remembered for one of those. I'm thinking this January sale ends in a few days. Wanted to order one, maybe some one will come to our rescue with some dimensions or a pattern.

I have my Lukebox that I kept when I sold my 86 and will be putting it in my 84. Im going to be cutting it up soon. im just going overboard with the cutting and am going to cut straight down from the vertical pillars. Mines a 12" so a little extra space wont be a big deal. I will have pics when its all cut

I guess my only question is whether the OP wants more bass or better bass.

If you have 2 JL 12s, my guess is they face the rear? Cutting out the ski pass would do nothing. I used to have 2 JL 12s (W-0) and my issue with them wasn't more bass... they made enough noise, they rumbled the car, they vibrated panels that had layers of dynomat on them... but the didn't sound that great.

The key of getting the sound through the ski pass helps with the quality of the bass... hearing a mallet hitting a bass drum... actually hearing the contact, not just the boom that follows... IMHO.
