What can I do? I can't access the battery, the trunk is unlocked, but it won't open.
Trunk won't open, battery is dead, automatic

I can't say that I've ever seen a positive distribution terminal on a E30. Maybe a US thing? But i'll look for it. It's a 1988 euro 325iX. Not my car, I'm just trying to help a friend.
That's what I thought. It has central locking, but I'd imagine that since I'm able to turn the key, something is as you say, goofy.'91 E30 316i

I don't see why unlocking with the key and pushing the key cylinder in wouldn't work with a dead battery. I have never had an issue with any of my e30's with dead batteries.Comment

There's one in every rear-battery e30. Look for the battery cable coming from the back of the car, as well as the cable going to the starter. Both should end up at the distribution block.Comment

Yes. I know that.
Maybe I explained it wrong. I turned the key, so the lock is in unlocked position, but it still wont open. I'm both norwegian and dumb, so my explanation skills aren't top notch.
I'll have a look at it again tomorrow.'91 E30 316i

If you take the upper part of the back seat out, you can knock the ski-pass (if the car doesn't have one) opening through and open it from inside. Sounds like the rod may have come off the latch.Comment

in this pic. i know it's not great but it's what i have. my dad is holding the positive end, where you need to change the car from.
as for the trunk. all the way right is like a dead bolt state, where the central locking cant unlock the truck. center is so that the button looks like (--) is central locking working, but locked. all the way left is unlocked and while the key is in that position try pushing the button in. if that doesnt work left the key return its self to neutral and then press the button.Comment
