WD40 is good for temporary lubrication but it completely disappears in about a week.

White Lithium Lubricant in a spray can is a better way to go.

Similar situatin w/ me. Well... in reality whats going on with me is that my key is broken in half, and I installed a keyless system, guess what? battery went out. So for what I read in this thread, I came to the comclusion that Iam not totally screwed on this one. I know I am able to open the hood with a flat screw driver, and I can conect the positive terminal on the terminal block in the firewall on the passenger side. Now, where do I connect the negative? engine block maybe?

There's a ground either on the strut tower or in the battery tray depending year, even a strut tower nut will work.

Ground lug on the shock tower should work

Some models don't have that ground, it's on the "battery tray".
