is it possible to install e46 instrument cluster to an E30 ?

You would need the DME and all the controls systems also in place on the E30 chassis for it to function properly.

yes. you need a DME for sure. you can get away without the light control module but you have to do quite a bit of soldering. and you need to reprogram the gas gauge, and build an adapter to convert the gas sender signal of the E30 to work with the E46 cluster (the E30 uses 12v the E46 uses 5v). And repgrogram the speedometer.. and a lot of other little things.

I've done most of this but haven't had time to quite finish it yet. This is definitely not something you just swap in on a weekend..
