Radio #1 is a CM5905, they also had a CM5907 (same exact radio, but instead of the "AM/FM" button on the CM5905 the CM5907 had a "Band" button which added weather band function.

#2 btw is for E30s that did NOT have a fader function on the dash. Which would be the newer E30 (not sure of the year range)

It was in an 91 318is. Whatever radio you get, it will all be "correct" so just get what you like. The slider is touch sensitive and it was blown away when I realized it lol

Cool! What year was your 1st E30? Is that lower right slider touch sensitive, like an early iPod control?

OEM Radio Model #'s & Years Offered

I'd like to sticky this thread for future reference.

Can anyone fill in the blanks and add model numbers to these E30 (I think) radios? I'm looking to get my hands on a factory radio for my '90 325is, but I'm not sure which model is correct for that year.

If you have any more to add to this list, or any of these don't apply to the E30, please correct me as needed. I'll adjust this 1st post based on your feedback.

Radio #1 - CM5905 / CM5907 - I think this is for the diving board bumper E30's (1984-87). There seems to be strong agreement that this is the radio most commonly installed in the '84-'87 models.

Common on E30 models, built by Alpine Electronics
CM5907 had weather band [AM/FM button is 'BAND' on the CM5907]
Single knob (for volume), Sliders for treble and bass
    Two rows of five buttons
Two speaker outputs, left and right, used with fader control on dash
Premium system had the fader feed the rear amplifier
Yellow and white power pigtail w/ 2 pin Molex connector, others plug in

    CM5907

Radio #2 - CM5908 - Lots of agreement that this one was available on the late model E30's (1988-1993).
    CM5908 Alpine w/ infrared slot, 89-93 E30
Four speaker outputs, no fader control on dash.
Yellow and white power pigtail w/ 2 pin Molex connector
    White/brown and Blue/brown second pigtail.
Cable 1-388-934 converts rear speaker outputs to 8 pin fader control connector
CD changer control with 13 pin round DIN socket in rear
CD control socket has 3x4 array, plus 1 opposite key
    Works with TR1000, TR1600 and TR1008 (6, 6 and 12 disc) changers
    BMW-specific data cable, NLA

Radio #3 - Model KE-83ZBM (Pioneer). Has been seen in a few late model E30's.

    Radio #4 - Model CM5804 - Early E30's, maybe late E21 also.
Early E30 radio built by Alpine Electronics
AM/FM/Cassette, Dolby, no weather band or anti-theft
Bass and Treble sliders under volume knob on the left
Center cassette door over the display.
Mechanical FF and rewind buttons to left of door
One row of 5 preset buttons under the display
Function buttons, including Dolby button, on the right.
Yellow and white power pigtail w/ 2 pin Molex connector, antenna pigtail

Radio #5 - There was a guy selling this one on BF a couple years ago as a U.K.-spec, E30 Blaupunkt, with the RDS feature.(displays radio station call letters and name of song/artist)

    Radio #6 - KE-81ZBM02 (Pioneer) E30 Premium radio from 1987
