Saab 6.5" subwoofer fits above jack

Ok, so I am replacing the speaker rings on two of these subwoofers. Just for fun, I figured I would test fit it in an iX. It looks like it would fit pretty well above the space for the jack with some brackets. It is only a 6.5" but hey it sounds decent in the saab 9-5 wagon. I didnt hook it up in the iX.

That's really interesting. What year Saab did it come from? Are you planning on installing it? What are the amp/ohm specs of the speaker?

Details? This could be a good option to swap woofers also.

It is from a 2000 Saab 9-5 SE wagon with the Harmon/Kardon. V6 Turbo yo! 6.5" DVC 2ohm / 22watt per coil. My original dry-rotted, so I bought a 2nd one a the junk yard for about $20. It takes about 10 minutes to pull out if you are nice and don't break anything. The replacement also had a crack in the foam surround so I replaced one yesterday with a rubber surround and I am going to do the 2nd one today or tomorrow. I will try that in one of the cars. Oh, and the surrounds are about $10 from speakerworks.com and i'm sure a junk yard will give a deal if you explain the foam surrounds on these things crack after about 8 years. Formel's in Great Barrington, MA has a bunch of these cars.

more info here about various saab stereos:

depth is about 2-3/4" but could be modified to accept 3-5/8" by removing the centering cone..yes, it actually poked into the center of the stock subwoofer to center it.

          Here is that cone:

Measuring volume is not my thing.
          13.5x high
          10.5"wide
5" deep...mostly. some of this box is curved probably to conform to something else from the saab.

Might be a nice light weight solution.

Yes, MDF is super heavy. This box is a tad bit over 3lbs. Remove the foam ring, and I bet it will be less than 3lbs.

While it is nice and small, I don't see this doing much other than rattling your trunk a bit. A driver that small sealed in the trunk will be unnoticeable in the cabin.

Now if you could fit it under the driver's seat...

True. I wonder it it will fit snug against the ski pass. It isn't much larger than the ski bag.

It sounds good in your wagon because there's no trunk. This will do next to nothing in your trunk with a thick foam seat and sheet metal between you and the trunk

unnoticeable? Me thinks it's not going to rock the house, but any thing is better than nothing. Anything to add a little bump is nice. Combine that with a small amp - I can see it working decently enough to be worth the weight. I have all the MDF, and amps, and woofer to build a sub box, but adding all that weight to my car is not something I'm looking forward to.

These aren't race cars. Do people really care about 50 lbs. of weight for good sounding stereos? Get skinnier friends. Keep the bass.

I think it is more like people sometimes put stuff in the trunk

My Lukebox isn't that big... It hasn't hampered anything, I can throw just as much stuff in the trunk as I did before.

Bass is worth the 58 pounds my lukebox weighs...

A luke box is only what, 8-9" at the bottom? So you lose almost no space.
