    OBC issue

Recently ordered a new computer light bar for my OBC in my 1986 325es. Installed the new one and it still will not light up. The numbers are still displayed but don't light up. Any ideas?

I'm guessing 6 button OBC? there should be bulbs in the back you can replace. 13 button has a removable light bar that slides out.

He said light bar and he has an ES, so he has the 13 button obc.

Can you apply a small voltage to the light bar, like 1.5v from a battery, to see if the bulbs are good?

Definitely test the bar as Kershaw suggests.

My experience with replacing four light bars is that sometimes they don't make very good contact with the internals in the OBC. Make sure the light bar is fully inserted.

also.. you have to turn your ignition to ON before the backlight comes on. Seems obvious but you would be surprised

I have a 6 button on my 325i, I’m having trouble getting the lights to work (black socket ones). Any chance that if 1 is burned out it takes both out, leaving an open circuit? I’m stressed because it worked before I took it apart to replace hvac light bulbs, which is a crappy job. Anyway, any advice appreciated.

I do know that it’s hard to get the green connector seated well, and, I know the ignition has to be on.

Power and signal for the OBC is routed through the cluster SI board. If your SI board is not refurbished, you will continue to have problems.
