Remove back seat and put in 3 12 inch subs. That makes sense for for good spl and rear seat passengers. Better yet, why not put in JBL compression drivers and dual base binns with two 15 inch subs in each bin.

      haha

I think some people just consider trunk as a audio box. :)
I have hard time hearing anything when the top is down, I pull the windbreaker up and it helps alot. :P

The sub doesn't suck. It's the environment that sucks.

And yes I didn't want to cut a structural member of the car just so I could get more db. If you want to cut it, go right ahead.

Figure out how to do what you're gonna do and get back to us. I'd love to see the solution.

So just to explain how that whole "add more power" bullshit would kick your ass in a bad way if you wanted to make it louder, consider this:

If you are getting 120db using 600 watts, and you decided to go only 3db louder, you would need about 1500 watts (roughly)...and your sub cannot handle that, nor could your box, nor could your alternator.

However, if you could actually pass the bass you have now you would likely gain as much as 10db.

That is why adding more power does not work.

          cabrio sub

I'm debating this myself, actually. I kind of agree with luke, more power really isnt the solution. its how the power is delivered.

With the top down its pretty impossible to hear it clear unless its extremely loud. The best bet is still the back seat.

I saw a feature car on PBMW, although it was an e36 he convert the rear seat into a one seater with two subs on each side next to the rear quarter panel, ofcourse blended in and reuphosltered. I think thats pretty creative.

I have a awesome idea, but I dont want people to steal it.. so I'll build it and post it and get back to ya all. eheheh whahaha

If it sounds shitty at 10 watts, it will still sound shitty at 1000.

Wattage is logarithmic, so twice the power of 100 watts is 1000, not 200.

Getting the pressure wave inside the cabin is simply not going to happen in a 'vert by adding more power. Not feasable...unless you don't care about sound quality.

Maybe I can get CorvallisBMW to drop his car off for a week or three so I can design and build a box in my spare time that actually works in a 'vert.

Cash is king! Actually I'd have a very very hard time convincing my wife that I'm spending a week in oregon to have a sub box built, but I can burn down for a weekend for the install. I'd have to rent a car down there, bring the family and tour the coast while the box is being installed but it's totally possible

how about some nice coaxials in the front door pannels (they can be fairly deep as the front of the cabby window does not move)... the non stock look of it is what's keeping me from doing it...

Did anything ever happen with this guys? I just tore out my back seats and trunk lining and I was trying to come up with some options. Any updates??

Boo hoo. I was hoping to find an answer to my sedan in here. I've got some serious kick in the trunk now, but I want to vent it into the cabin. Kicking through the skipass wasn't enough. Now I'm contemplating drilling holes with a sawzall like the orignial poster brought up. Although I suppose I could also make holes in the rear deck - though that would be visible....

Now I need to figure out how to get the trunk to stop rattling as much... Damn bass... :P

Are you sure its not the toolkit in the trunk rattling?? I also think the tail light backs vibrate a bit.... do you still have the carpet kit in ??
