thinking about some stereo upgrades

maybe im dumb, but what is A/D/S. Also, what do compontents entail? What are included in these sets, and what is left out that you need to piece together?

a/d/s/ (Analog and Digital Systems) is a manufacturer of audio equipment.

Components are a type of speaker. Instead of a coaxial where the tweeter and woofer are built into one, a component set has separate 'components' (The midrange driver, the tweeter, and the crossover). You don't need to piece anything together; you just have to hook the mid and the tweeter up to the passive crossover.

I finally tried looking for some a/d/s to see what all the hype was. I was very impresed. If I can find them, they are going in my car when im ready to finish the system. I actually found a set of 4 speakers. I believe they were 6 inch midbass and 4 inch mids with all the cross-overs, and the tweeters, some other acc's. It had a 250 buy it now on ebay, which is not bad at all. What amp do you usually recommed with most of their line?

did you actually hear them, if so where i know you are close by....dude my car still isn't running by the way, we did the head gasket and it kept stalling so its at the shop, i gave up. been down for like 4 months now, but i have money lol.

A/D/S are very nice. We had a set on our boat run by a Hafler amp. The set we had were made to be installed in the wall. For their size, they were very loud and very crisp sounding.

Dave-- I didnt actually hear them. But the construction was amazing. I've seen subwoofers that weren't as built as their midbass speakers. I imagine it is probably pretty tough to get a hold of some of their stuff though. My local audio stores are pretty crappy. The only good stuff that they have around here is the high end alpine, some eclipse, and for the big bassers the memphis lines. I cant even find MB Quart around here.

Everyone keeps saying that upgraded speakers for the e30 are night and day. I have been very pleased with my stock premium sound system. Its the best stereo set-up I have had in any of my cars to date, and if upgraded speakers really make that much difference, it should be interesting to hear the results.

Thats too bad about the car, I should have come up to help out. I hope it comes back soon. I was devistated after having my car out for a week and a half during my fuel crisis. I went to the dismantaler yesterday and picked up a late model valance and snagged the ellipsoids off of it too. The guy up there had no idea the parts I had. He took 120 for everything. The valance had fogs and one brake duct, and one of the highbeams on the ellips has a hole in it, but I still think I made out pretty good.

Its the best stereo set-up I have had in any of my cars to date, and if upgraded speakers really make that much difference, it should be interesting to hear the results.

The stock premium system is absolute crap compared to just about any aftermarket speaker. However, you won't really get much benefit from upgrading to a high quality speaker if you still use the factory deck and blaupunkt amplifier.

car is back early next week, turned out the only reason it wouldn't run was because of a hole that i didn't see in the intake boot (son of a bitch lol) so its good to go as of next week. I also have a pair of brake ducts if you need them.

about the speakers i saw some on ebay that are the old model perhaps i'll post the link maybe ken can help us out. they were going for fairly cheap when i saw them last.

ken we both have aftermarket head units, but i will definitely need an amp to go along with whatever speakers i go with.

Ken, yea for now I have upgraded headunit sending signal to stock amp. Im in the market for a new deck as well though. I might start getting back into stereo late in the summer time. If that happens, new deck, new speakers, and another amp to power them. May even consider losing my 12s and getting two 10s or something smaller.

Dave, thats great the car is back. Have to get together when im in the area. Im supposed to meet m42technik eventually this summer. I installed US ellipsoids today as well as the front valance. Car looks 10x better. I do need a set of brake ducts, or at least one since i only have one. And I should probably get another fog light so I will have two good ones.

how are image dynamics speakers? they seem to be high end.

i can hook u up with that brake duct sometime. if you get back into car stereo we should have a wiring and install day. I've never done anything with car stereo so i dont know anything.

IDs are really nice. Don't they're component sets come with compression horns for the highs though?

not sure, there are some on ebay, i came across them by accident. i'd really like to pick up some a/d/s and if i can't find them i'll spring for the mb quarts. my dad offered to buy me some sport seats (not sure why) so i have some money to play with.

Maybe it isn't as good as the stuff they made a few years back before DEI bought them, but it's still pretty damn good. And $199 for a set of components is a damn good deal.

i also like the smooth sound, i've heard some exteremly bright speakers and it wasn't quite what i wanted so i think a/d/s or image dynamics will prob be where i end up. I think i'll go with a silk dome....image dynamics give you an option of silk or aluminum on that website.

so which would you go with image dynamics or a/d/s.....i've heard constant raving about a/d/s on this forum. I am going to order some this week so i need to make a decision.
