Subwoofer questions

Hey, guys i just got another e30 and need a sub for the system. I think i have the premium system as i have the tweeters and fader switch. There is a kenwood head unit installed that i think has a crossover built in for the sub. My wife has said i spent to much already just purchasing the car, but i've managed to squeeze a budget of $300 max for sub, box and amp. i found the following items which would leave me enough money to purchase a box BUT i know if i just buy a random box, it will suck and not be what i want, is there anywhere on the net i could buy a decent box or some kind of tutorial to build a box that would be decent? oh and my backseat is the full sealed kind (no ski Hole) and has new leather so i ain't cuttin holes in it or replacing it. hehe. thanks

Scotty, welcome to R3V.

Read that thread, it should explain a bunch about the boxes. I also did a tutorial on how to install the box, it is a bit involved, but anyone shold be able to do it.

Most people agree that rear speakers are a total waste in an E30, so my subwoofer system eliminates them...amazing fit, excellent quality of sound...far cheaper than your local shop would do it for, I promise.

All e30s have a ski hole, just not necessarily in the seat. There is a metal punch out panel in the rear bulkhead. Take off your rear seat back and you will see.

Nah, not breaking the budget too much...a bit maybe, but not bad.

Do the cheap shit Sony woofer from WalMart, the thing sounds great. Nice and clean, deep and clear...excellent bass by anyones standards. You won't need a ton of power because the box is very efficient. I will sell you a great amp from Titanium Power for about $120, makes an honest 280 RMS on a 4 ohm mono load. Shipping is gonna be about $40, I will throw in RCAs and remote wire.

Use your deck power for now, add a small amp for mids and highs later...or go a bit over and use a 4 channel amp to run the whole thing now and add about $40. Either way, the box is the most important thing...hell, the Sony woofer and the POS "VR" amp from walmart will still make great bass and sound terrific, and that would be just about exactly on budget.
