Which CD player for a factory look?

I'm leaning towards the Nakamichi CD-500 for its MP3 capability as well.

When I first got the car I didn't think that I would care, but now that there is a piece of junk "newer" looking deck (was always planning to replace it anyway) I think I might prefer something that's a bit more period correct. But I'm still open to other ideas.

Another option I have been seriously considering is the Eclipse CD5000, local guys here say its a fantastic deck, and you can still get them for around $300 from Amazon and eBay.

^Couldn't find anything on their site really.

No one has any input on Nakamichi or anything?

I almost bought an eclipse myself, but upon closer inspection it is nothing to write home about.

            I have fucked around with a CD300 and another, a 450 I think.

The problem is that I remember the old Nak, the REAL Nak, nothing like these, trust me.

No love for the new Nak here. Give me an Audiocontrol 3.1 and a $100 deck any day.

            Closing SOON!

Good to know. I've also read lots of skipping problems with Nak's.

So I want something that sounds good, will be skip resistant (very riding on Eibach ERS, GC COilovers and Konis) 3 sets of preamp outs with good voltage, control an iPod, play Mp3's

What do you suggest? My local shop only sells Pioneer and Kenwood decks (which I'm not so sure about), well and Eclipse, but even he bagged on their new stuff.

Damn, that's a nice Cabrio. Someday, I'd like to do the S50 engine, the Euro-bumpers and the CD43 swap. And some 16" weaves or Kopi's.

The CD43 swap is more realistic at this point, so it's something I'll probably do this summer.

I've looked at some of the aftermarket HU's out there, but like the stock look of the CD43 and it's ability to play MP3's burned to CD's, or so I've heard. Can anyone verify if the CD43 plays MP3's burned to CD?

I have a friend who is a "Client Adviser" (Salesman) at BMW of SF, so I wonder what kind of markup there is on those, and if he can get me one better then the eBay price of $275-$300

it does not play mp3s, but I'm certain someone out here must have hacked it to play mp3s.

The inability to play MP3s would be a deal breaker, although I can use a wired, inline FM Modulater to connect my MP3 player, but that would defeat the point of upgrading to a CD player.

Anyone know about the MP3 hack?

Yeah, but all the aftermarket HU's look like the damn 4th of July with all the bling-bling BS and lights and crap.

                        Style over Substance.

I want a nice, clean, stock look.

If the CD43 played MP3's, I would have one in my car next week.

OK, maybe the week after that. I have to send Uncle Sam a check by the 15th.

Plus it's good to have it looking stock, less chance of it getting stolen :P

Another option is a C43 or C33 cassette deck, which is less expensive then the CD43

I might go that route since the CD43 does not play MP3's and use the C43 and a Scosche inline antenna FM modulator to plug my MP3 player into.

I just need to make the IBUS work in my 88, which shouldn't require to much cutting and splicing, and then bypass the factory amp in the trunk.

The C43 has RDS which displays the song title and artist when tuned to the radio which is a nice feature.

I just may go with one of these, but I need to figure out if the IBUS harness can be spliced to work with a 1988 car.

Or find a decent looking aftermarket CD/MP3 HU, but I don't like the way they look with all the multi-colored lights and the silver faceplates.

                            Any other recommendations?
