    E30 convertible top question

For any of you E30 vert owners who drive your car year round, what do you do, if anything, to fill or cover the small gaps on each side of the lower edge of the top where it meets the car just behind the back windows (basically, the lower edge of what would be the C pillar on a hardtop)? On the later model cars and most other convertibles, the edge of the top seems to fit into the body at these locations. On the E30, the top just sits on top of the hideaway lid, but on the sides, there's an open space.

Is there a good way to fill that in other that stuffing rags in the top frame along the insides to plug the holes? It does quiet the inside down substantially and prevents a lot of cold air from seeping in. Or is my top out of adjustment somehow?

Any info would be great. Thanks!!

I two tops, One that the PO put on and another I picked up at the junk yard. The one from the junk yard covers alot better in thoeses areas so it makes me think my top was cheap one and I've seen a few tops and most of them come down lower to the body of the car and have better sealing in that area. Not much you can do besides maybe putting a clothe or shirt there.

Stuff a couple rags in there during the winter time. Mine has original top and it's like that.

OK. That's what I've been doing so far. Sounds like it's about my only option besides replacing the top with god knows what.

Unless rain goes up where you live you got nothing to worry about. That whole compartment is drained to the bottom of the car anyways.

when it's -10 outside, the last thing you want is a hole in the car somewhere.
i've personally never noticed this gap. but i don't drive my car with the top up

Older tops tend to have that issue as the canvas can shrink over time and create gaps. Sadly, the only solution is a new top.

I'd also guess it's time for a new top. I've had two tops and neither had that issue... Even the old one didn't shrink like that after 10 yrs. Pics from outside?
